Post Triton V-10

I am looking into buying a motorhome with a Triton V-10 engine. I would like to get any info about this engine that I can. Is it made by Ford? Thanks very much.

Your kidding, right?

You're on a Ford website, in the V10 forum. Of course it's made by Ford!

It is the largest member of the modular family of engines. It has a displacement of 6.8L or 415 CID. It is rated (now) at 310HP and 425 lb. ft. of torque. The power firgures are a bit lower for the motorhome depending on the year. It is a great engine.

What would you like to know?

I have it in a 99 f-550 super duty, 36 ft Fleetwood Bounder, 128,000 miles. I love the engine, uses no oil, getting 8-10 mpg using 87 octane. Plenty of torque, little rough riding. Just keep it serviced, change engine oil regular and transmission fluid regularly, and let er rip..

I have the V-10 in my 98 E-350 XLT ClubWagon, with 15 passenger seating, and while it's not the most powerful engine I've ever had, I'll have to say it is one of my favorites. It is ssssooooooooo smooth and torquey, it's really a pleasure to drive, even in a big, bulky, boxy, white van. The exhaust note while is way different, is the kind that grows on you. I didn't know that I liked it at first, but it has definitely grown to be 'music to my ears'. It's amazing how a 5,000+ pound vehicle can be so responsive. There's power down low in the RPM range, there's LOTS of power in the mid-RPM range, and the motor WANTS to rev with it's OHC design. At 415 cubic inches I guess it would be considered a small block. Especially so since it's basically a 4.2 liter V-6 with 4 extra cylinders, and a 5.4 liter V-8 with 2 extra cylinders. Hence the 'modular' design. So if ya aint done it yet, GO BUY IT ! You'll love it, as most everyone here on this forum at least does. Plus, after all the merits I've sang of above, as if THOSE weren't enough, you get THE STINKING BADGES MON, those beautiful glorious "HEY I GOTTA V-10 UNDER MY HOOD" badges. Kinda makes it all worthwhile. AND you get to join a very, very select group of really neat, rich, good looking, young folks who hang out sometimes on this board. Hope to see you around ! Ken

Yeah - I'll second that. I'm neat, although not rich, not so young anymore, and ........ oh forget it, this is getting depressing!

It is the hot rod of Class C motorhome engines, and a good strong gas engine in the Class A gas vehicles (rather than the oil-burners).

Lets put it this way, if you don't buy the V10, and you get anything else," YOU WILL BE SORRY"

V10 is the greatest, and

The 4.2 liter is a pushrod engine, based on Ford's bullet proof (hint of sarcasm) 3.8 liter car engine (sorry, still bitter about a Taurus experience). I hear Ford's thinking about an overhead cam base V6 for the next F-150, but for right now they're running a low-tech pushrod engine

I have driven the v10 and it is so smooth, I balanced a beer bottle on the wing nut of the air cleaner without it falling off. It's like an electric engine it's so smooth! Kurt

I read in a recent issue of Wards Automotive that the 6.8L V-10 will get the 3 valve per cylinder treatment, just like the '04 4.6L and 5.4L v-8s. Ford has started production this past July and has been installing all three in Australia.

The mighty 6.8L V-10 3v is good for 350+ HP

I have a 30' motor home, no slide outs, with the v10. It had plenty of power, but i pull a 10,000 lb. 29' boat, two motors and trailer so i had the complete Banks kit installed with the chip and trans kit. I love it. The only way to go. The big trucks are very surprised when i keep up or out run them.

Well FINALLY !! With little 2.0 liter motors making 100 hp per liter, and over 1 hp per cubic inch, we was really getting robbed at the measly hp ratings of our 415 cubic inch, supposedly 'high-tech' V-10's. Even 350 seems a bit light, but definitely an improvement over what is now offered. Geez the 45+ year old Chevy small block makes 1 hp per cubic inch non-turbo'ed, or anything. Bill Ford Jr keeps spouting his mouth off on TV saying "we want to be known as the horsepower company". Well GOOD FOR YOU BILL !! Now howzabout doing something about it ? That new Chrysler hemi in the Dodge pick-up @350 cubic inches and 345 hp is sure embarassing the heck out of the 5.4 liter V-8 with only 260 hp now aint it Bill ?
