Need Drilled and Slotted Rotors for Edge
I'm Going to do the brakes on my friends 2003 Edge 2x4 3.0 auto. He has some put on some pretty big tires and ever since his brakes have gotten a little hot and theres some purple spots on the front rotors.
He wants drilled and slotted rotors but i'm not sure were to get them for less then $200, plus the places i've found rotors weren't clear as to if they are for an edge. I have a 2002 XLT and my rotors are smaller then the edge rotors, but the Edge has hubs built into the rotor so the 4x4 ones wont fit.
Help me out please, i hope someone can tell me the exact size and brand i need and were to get them for a resonable price. Thanks guys...

just be careful on the cheap slotted and drilled rotors. Some on ebay are just cheapo rotors that they are then drilling and/or slotting. They will not perform nearly as good as a higher quality solid rotor.
Also, is he running aftermarket rims as well? One of the complaints on newer cars, and its all over these boards as well, is the amount of brake dust. in the last 15 years or so the auto manufacturers have been designing the wheels to draw air through the brakes and help cool them, thus pulling the dust from the pads through as well. (cheaper pads of course leave even more visible dust on the wheels.) If they are just a cheapo set of Amer. Racing nascar look wheels that many people seam to like the look of they may not be flowing the air through the brakes as well. so in addition to the larger heaver tires, the brakes could also have reduced cooling ability.

He has the stock 5 spoke wheels like you usually see on the FX4. His brakes were fine till he big the biggest tires he could fit on there. Now his brakes gget hot and fade. I put on EBC pads and it helped a lot but he now has purple spots on his rotors cause they down cool enough.
I have the cheap American racing baja wheels on my truck (you can see in my picture) and i dont have anyproblems with the brake at all. I even went up 2 sizes in tires, but since i took off steel wheels and put on aluminum, they kinda offset the extra weight of the tires.
I was actually looking at a set of rotors on ebay and am communicating with the guy to make sure they are the right ones, they have excellent feedback, and for $150 the price is right. My freind cant afford to spend $400 on rotors.

I hate to tell you, but the drilled and slotted rotors prolly aren't going to help much. There's no size increase of the rotor, so it's still going to fade just as much. Get a new set of solids, a better set of pads (like HAWK HPS, screw EBC), do a proper bedin procedure and hope for the best.

Buffman is right... unless you're going to a "custom" set-up which may have you changing the calliper set-up.
I've only had a brake size increase project on a '99 (XLT 2wd) Ranger. This was a few years back, so I'm unsure if things have between "my" '99 and your friend's '03 have changed. The only real bummer is that who-ever now owns "my" Ranger can't buy the std issue Ranger pads.
