I sure hope you're being facetious. The Tornado thing is a super hoax thats been around for 30+ years....Maybe it'll help a tad on a 60's motor with a super wacky intake or something but otherwise it's a joke and I don't know how they keep selling them. It's right up there with gas magnets. If stuff like this worked, you can surely bet that the manufacturers would design them into their vehicles. You say you picked up 4-5 mpg? I gotta say BS bigtime. FWIW, I've got some muffler bearings that'll add 25hp to the wheels....really, only 49.95 cash, and I'll throw in a free bottle of blinker fluid with every order. Oh and I got a great bridge for sale too....CHEAP!

5.4L poor gas milage

I have an 01 supercab 4x4, 5.4l & 3.55ls. I can usually get between 14-15mpg w/o driving like a granny. On a recent trip up to Lake Tahoe I averaged 17.4 with A/C on most of the time and driving between 65-75. The gas we have here in California is reformulated junk. Whenever I get gas out of state it feels like I'ved added octane boost. By adding a K&N and a flowmaster(delta 70 series)mpg's increased about .75. About 6 weeks ago I added a Diablo chip and I experienced an additional increase in mpgs. I can't tell exactly how much because I've pulled the chip to send it back and have it reprogrammed for 91 octane. While I had it in it was so much fun I couldn't keep my foot out of it but my milage stayed the same as before. I know when I drive it the same way now my milage backs off to about 13.5mpg. I need to drive more conservatively to get back above 14.

You might check the tires air pressure. Also you should experience a slight increase as the truck really breaks in. I've read other posts suggesting you'll see that increase somewhere between 12,000-20,000 miles. I believe I saw an increase at around 13,000 but that is sort of a seat of the pants feel.

A K&N Filter would work great - you can definitely tell the difference of power in a F-250 SD 5.4, we haven't checked the mileage yet, but we have shaved 2-3 days off the normal fill-up routine. Hope that helps. Oh, by the way, the filter that fits in our truck is the E-0945... i assume the intake on the F-150 is similar. Good Luck!

I have a 1998 F-150 X-cab 5.4 with 3.55 rears and towing package and i only get 13 to 14 mpg. Never more or less.I use 87 octane never anything higher. I use either Shell or Exxon. If I use a cheaper grade of fuel , say from a mom and pop store then I always see a drop.

Hey Sean, I have a 2001 F150 Supercrew cab that does not get great gas mileage neither. I have asked around and found out so far, that an aftermarket muffler, IE: flowmaster or turbo will boost you horse power along with your gas mileage. I have also found that a cool air intake will also increase your mileage. I am still shopping around right now to find the right buy. Once I urchase the products I will let you know how good it is.

I had a 2000 F150 supercab sb 4x4 3.31 gears, 5.4, it got about 12 when it was new, up to 15k then began to improve. Eventually got up to 17mpg on hwy driving. Tried the k&n and dual exhaust. didn't see much change in mpg, but made a little more power. Kind of a seat of the pants feel, as some would say. Didn't try the poor boys cold air intake on that one, but on my expy it made a difference.

Don't know why your milage is so low. I have a 2002 F150 Supercab 5.4L automatic 2WD 355 rear end and I get 17.5 mpg to 18.5 mpg. I do mostly highway driving and have a flowmaster dual exhaust system and K&N air filter. I run with 38 psi in all 4 tires. Have almost 15K miles but was getting same milage when truck was new.

I am driving a '01 F150 SuperCab, 4X4, 5.4, Automatic, 3:55's, Off Road, Flareside with the cat back 2 chamber Flowmaster and 12,000 miles. Went from Az. to Fl a couple months ago. Not at all gentle with the pedal and averaged 16.5 on the trip. Best was 17.3, worst was 13.2 (construction). Went out last weekend and did about 150 miles on some desert roads using 4 Hi with some slow going but nothing heavy, (most around 20-25mph). Still got over 15 on that tank. Regular use is 10 miles one way for the wife (and she likes to hear those pipes)to get to work and we get a steady 16+. We are real happy with this performance.

Do you drive particularly fast. I noticed that when I drive faster on the highway my mileage goes down. I got signifingantly better mileage on slower highways (like US routes vs interstates).

I have a 2001 F-250 4x4 w/ auto & 4.10 gears. I have been very pleased with the gas mileage (along with the rest of the truck). I frequently take long highway trips that require me to go from one gas station to another. The best I have done is 19.5 mpg @ 65mph, and have hit 19 very often. However, in town I get the typical 12-13. I also notice that my rpms go up considerably after 65mph and my gas mileage goes to hell (probably from the steep gears). My only mods are a K&N air filter. I wonder if using 5W-20 will help your gas mileage? I've heard you can pick up a mile or two with it.

My F150 has about 43K and I get about the same as yourself. The only thing I have done is installed a K&N air filter since buying the truck however have noticed no changes. I'm also looking for a cure to this expensive problem keep me in mind if you find the cure.

5.4L poor gas milage

Just got back from a 2300 mile trip over Christmas with my '99 Expy; 5.4L, 3.31. I averaged 17 mpg for the trip(65-75 mph). Averaged 17 mpg on the way up, 13.5 mpg at in-laws and 18 mpg on the way back. I recently took a 1200 mile trip and got 16.1 mpg average. I changed to 5W-20 oil before the Christmas trip, but I don't know if that had anything to do with the increase in mileage. My Expy has a new engine that now has 9000 miles on it. I get between 12 and 13 in town, usually.

Happy New Year!

5.4L poor gas milage

Ok Guys I must have something wrong here w/my 2000 SD 4x4 5.4. Hearing the great fuel milage you guys are getting is making me SICK. I have the KN filter w/a mod. air box, Poweraid TBS, 40 Flowmaster with dual 2 1/2" tail pipes. and the best I can get is 11.1 mpg and thats only if I keep it under 2 grand on the tach which is just over 70 w/3.73. If I stand on it I can watch the fuel gauge move down as the speedo goes higher. HELP!!!!
