Motor swaps in a 1970 mach 1
I'm looking for a cheap 1970 mustang mach 1 to buy and fix up to be a street/strip car. I know its not a truck but I own a truck. I was wondering if anyone knew what size motors could be swapped into one of these cars. I would like to know if a 351W would go in there because I want to have a stroker motor in it. I want a high horsepower motor. I don't care if it is illegal. Because I believe that its not illegal unless you get caught. I am going to run a straight exhaust on it. Any help on this topic would be helpful.

Hey guys, I'm really heavy duty into mustangs, and for one, I can tell you that Nathan is correct, some did come with the 351W's, in 1970. Although, In 1971, some Mach's came with a 429 CJ RAM AIR, I'd think that car would be better for you, because Ford would have already beefed up the suspension in it, and you might even think about keeping the 429. Here in Texas 429 Machs aren't that much more than the normal Machs. Not too many people sell them for more than 6K here. Hopefully, I'll have an all original '67 fastback someday. (well, except for the rims)

Good luck !!!

I don't know how fast you want to go, but the 351 would be a great compromise with better fuel economy and should handle better with the lighter engine. Also should be quite fast. My Ford-engineer neighbor using his (former) 351 street/strip car beat somebody with a big block General Motors hot rod because the guy with the bib block has so much torque he could not get the tires to bite.
