Unhappy My New '08

well bought an '08 yesterday, drove it home (it was great). drove to work today and notice a huge puddle of atf on the ground after the truck sat for awile. i could see it dripping from the bell housing. had it towed to the dealer, they said it is the front seal on the trans. so I had it for less then 24 hours, now it is going to sit at the dealer until monday. not a good start, although i know stuff like this can happen

Good mechanic can do it in about 6 hours with good help and all the parts on hand. Had the same thing go wrong in my 03' with 80,000 miles. Be happy it's under warranty. That little $2 seal ended up costing me over $1100 to replace. That's one of the reasons I ended up with a 6-speed on my 08'. Sorry to hear about that, good luck in the future. These trucks have been doing pretty good so far.

It sucks, but I wouldn't worry too much about it. My first 6k miles have been trouble free.

They should take good care of you. So far, they have taken care of the issues as quickly as possible.

one thing i have to say, which i was quite surprised by, was everyone was very cool. from the tow truck driver to the service advisor calling me before my truck was even picked up by the tow truck. my salesman even called me to make sure i had a ride home and to see if he could do anything for me. (and it was his day off) so far i am extremely happy, the only thing that worries me is was it caused by seal damage from assembly or was there something else that caused the seal to fail. I guess I will find out after they fix it

I feel your pain, although my problem was not as bad as yours. I know this tends to tant your new car experience, but once it is fixed you will really start enjoying your new truck.

Just after getting my 2008 F-450 home, I noticed a small engine oil leak under the truck. I took it back to the dealer and it turned out to be a simple fix. The seal (oring) for the oil dip stick tube had been torn during installation, a simple fix but I had to wait a couple of days for them to order the part.

Let us know how everything works out. Hope you enjoy you new truck as much as I am mine.

Feel your pain. Drove my 08 around 20 miles and was in the shop for a week when they had the problems with the injectors. Truck runs great now.

Thumbs up

I talked to the advisor today. they removed the trans and inspected the trans seals and pulled the oil pump. they said nothing looked obvious but they replaced the seals and o-rings. I was told the mechanic was going to stay late and get it put back together tonight. Then check it in the morning for leaks. Which made me feel better because it was leaking even when the truck wasnt running, but i am skeptical about not finding anything obvious

The seal may have just been pinched or could have had a little defect. Good thing you caught it early and didn't drive much with it like that. I had to replace my torque converter when my front seal went out because I had to drive almost 100 miles to the nearest dealer from my ranch. By the time I got there it was pouring tranny fluid.

Good to see that a bad situation was handled efficiently and had a happy ending. Thanks for the report, skinner00, and best of luck with your new truck.
