I am just wondering if changing my rear end gears from 3.55 to 4.10 would help. Does anybody know how expensive it is to change a rear end.

Ball park would cost from 1000 to 1500 bucks, and you would notice a difference.

The big question is do you need to. Is this pickup your daily driver? How often do you tow your trailer? These are the type of questions you have ask your self.

Yeah if you drive alot of highway without towing, the lower gears arent quite as economically friendly on fuel and the higher ones are.

Hey guys thanks for the input. Yes its a daily driver. I guess I am just getting over cautious in towing the trailer. Guys tell me that I should not have a problem towing the trailer. I have seen bigger trailers being towed buy smaller trucks then mind. I guess I just have to learn to take my time and take it easy.

Ya!! You should be just fine, as long as your hitch weight is OK. I have a 28" fifth wheel with a dry weight of 6850lbs. I pull it with a '07 f-150 super-cab 4X4, 5.4l with 3.73 gears. It pulls it fairly well. I don't break ant 0-60 records but I get down the road OK.

Thats the thing, if you can take your time you will do just fine. If you wanted to break some of those records, well then you go get a big assed dually diesel!

You will be OK.

I have a 04 Expedition (rear independendent susp.) with the 5.4 and 3.73 gears and I pull a trailer that is 6500 empty (around 7000 to 7500) loaded and I don't even feel it. I have towed to Kelowna, Jasper, and Rupert and never ever had a lick of difficulty. My bro-in-law had the exact same truck (Expedition) and towed a 8000 lb dry trailer and never had a prob. I am sure he was overwieght but he still made out ok.

I was worried about the indipendant rear susp but it pulls like a hot dam and sticks to the road real good. And our Expedition is bone stock. The only time I have ever gotten over 3000 rpm is pulling up to Mt Robson when I wanted to pass some people and when my daughter was wailing in the back seat and I just wanted to get home.

I have never shifted into 2nd, but take the OD off all the time. I have a lock-up torque converter which makes a HUGE difference.

After seeing your truck, you will have no probs. Have fun with it.

I tow my travel trailer with my 96 when it had the 300-6 and now with the 351 as well.

The lock up convertor is nice to have. I wouldnt have thought a expedition would be able to tow so well! But i guess the drivetrain is the same as a truck, and the size of an expy is pretty close too.

Man she tows like a horse going through puberty and seeing a filly on the other side of the pasture.

Just the other weekend I was coming back from a camping trip in Terrace and was just minding my own business and caught up to a semi and stepped out to pass it and the little devil on the shoulder said "Lay the hammer down Jim. Come on, don't be a wus, be a RoadHammer." So I listened like I always do, dropped it down a gear, put it up to 3000 rpm and launched past the semi. My wife will never admit to it but I caught the smile on her face.
