I'll admit I was wrong and that the air does move one way... Now that I recollect better... I was just remembering buying an aftermarket fan for a project and being asked if the fan pushed or pulled the air. But I wasn't asked if the fan was going on the front or back of the radiator either...

No worries, that's why were all here anyway, or at least most of us (myself included). So we can learn more about our autos.

Came into possession of an interesting piece of scrap metal today. It might be a bit big, but it might make a nice house for a filter element. Comments?

That looks like it has possibilities-I used the outer shell from an old portable dishwasher to make mine! Poor boys got poor ways!

well. It looks like it would fit it I pulled out the fluid reservoir. I didn't realize how far down it was to the wheel well. Problem is that the tube I have on there now is rigid and wont move. This setup would need the filter moved forward a little bid for the box to come all the way forward. Just cut a hole and I think the box would almost fall into place.

I might try this out on the 94 plow truck.

I'd do some cardboard mockups for each side that you can slip into place... Then the cardboard pieces will show you if you need to cut or trim any of the sheet metal...

^Thats how I did mine. Cardboard & duct tape mockup, then you can transfer the patterns to sheet metal.

A great idea! My '97 HD TBI has dual tubes out of the air box whose entry starts behind the headlight. It's the same area you get your cold air from. How much better was your mpg?

I wouldn't remove the washer/coolant tank for this. Maybe you can cut it and make it smaller. If it were mine, I would put the stock air box back on.

I don't remember if we talked about it or not, but I know a few people including myself that have had the same MAF KN setup and it did not seal up at the throttle body. I also don't like that setup, because that air temp sensor is exposed to the elements, cheesy design on that.

I know that my truck, as well as Jason's Lightning clone, and Cadillacmobs truck run better with the stock air box.

He speaks the truth. You will lose tq and HP with that setup. My box put 10 HP to the wheel on back to back runs versus stock box. With hood closed by the way.

That's why we built the one diagrammed in this thread. To improve upon the original design from Ford, in order to gain true power and efficiency on a not so stock 5.0.
