Danny-
i was looking into getting a chip either a superchip or diablo and was wondering what the possible hp combos that i could choose from are. i was looking for something around the 50 horsepower level. and what the costs for the different levels would be. would the higher hp versions cost more since they would be custom programmed? or not.
-also anybody's personal experience with either brand's chip would be appreciated.
thanks
chris

Chris: We seem to have better luck on the PSD's with the Diablo chips. We have a greater variety of programs with Diablo and now with the 4 bank chip, it increases our program availability by ten fold. The 4 bank chip allows us to use programs for a completely different code and they will work in your PMT2, providing that they are in the same Hex family. The prices for the different hp levels is the same. You are paying for 1 chip and 1 program, it really does not matter which program. The only reason to stay with a 50 hp program would be if you tow in excess of 12,000 pounds. Otherwise a 70 hp program would suit your needs and most likely gain about 2 mpg. Check out the online store here. Ken has as good a price as anyone on the chips.

Chris;
I just installed the diablo 70hp chip in my 2000 psd. OH MY GOODNESS hold on to your hat. Power to spare even when towing. I couldn't believe the difference in power. If you have any questions e-mail me.

I've recently become the proud owner of a new 2001 F250 Superduty diesel. I'm not too familiar with the specifics of the drivetrain, but I am reading with interest about the 'chips.'
Most of my experience comes from small displacement, gas operated, turbocharged motors. With these motors there have been some problems with elevated EGTs and pinging when 'chipping' a motor (Subaru WRX and Superchips). Does the diesel fuel help keep things cooler when 'chipping' a motor? Should you use an EGT sensor when going this route? Are there other gauges you should consider - i.e. a boost gauge?
Can you give me a brief overview of how the chip generates the extra power (higher boost, more fuel, etc.)?
I apologize ahead of time if these questions have previously been addressed. I just picked up the truck this afternoon and I'm overly excited concerning the vehicle and its possibilities. I promise, I'll put a few thousand miles on her before upgrading her already stunning performance.
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Tim

Tim; A boost gauge is nice to have. but, not a necessity. A pyrometer would be the gauge of chioce, but, again, not a necessity. The only time to worry about egt's is when towing heavy loads, by heavy, we mean a gross of over 25,000 pounds for truck and trailer. The best all-around program the we install is a 70hp and 150 ft/lb program. We increase the boost by manipulating the waste gate, add fuel, change the timing curve a bit and, voila, more horsepower. On the average, fuel mileae will increase about 2 mpg, some more, very few less. We also increase the transmission fluid presure 20% to help crispen the shifts a bit. One of our customers is an ex drag racer, he tested his truck before and after. Before chipping the truck ran 0-60 mph in 16 seconds, after chipping 0-60 mph in just over 10 seconds, quite a difference.
I have chipped trucks with less tha 1 mile on them and chipped trucks with 300,000 miles on them.
