Cool Dome light wont shut off!!!!!

I am still working some kinks out of my B2 and tonight the dome light decided it does not want to shut off. I have checked all the doors and hatch to make sure they are closed tight. And I have checked all the plungers. I puleed the fuze for now but I was wondering if anyone has ever had this problem and where do I start? Thanks in advance.

Turning the headlight switch **** all the way to the left activates the dome lamp.

OOPSIE! I have forgotten that I had turned it on with the headlight switch before... that's usually the first thing I check now. Hopefully, that's it. If not... time to start pulling switches and checking wiring.

I guess I'll have to do some more checking. I'm starting to regret trading my f-150 for this thing.

Could the problem be in the headlight switch itself?

From memory doing it a few years ago on Rangers/Explorers (might not apply to BIIs), take the cover off the lamp, if there is a little arm, bend it up slightly.

If the door switch is bad (thankfully not in the handle) it costs about $2 to replace it.

rebo, the older BIIs and Rangers didn't have a switch on the lamp assembly itself, if that is where you were going with your suggestion. I have a feeling that one of the door switches (more than likely it's the driver's side or the liftgate) is bad or there is a short somewhere in the wiring.

The headlight switch itself might be bad -- wiring could have gotten hot and somehow fused the contacts, but who knows.

Check the rear plunger on the hatch..mine used to come on and that's where the problem was. Even though the hatch was closed the switch wasn't working properly. I just took out the switch. The light still works when the drivers and passenger door are opened. The rear cargo light also has it's own button on it to turn it off/on with the rear hatch opened.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll work on it some more tommorow. Somethings gotta be going on with it though, I went back out and messed around with it some tonight. Now my radio doesn't have power. It is an after market CD player but I bought the harness kit for it. I dont like hacking into factory wiring. As far as a short in the wiring I definately need to look into that more. Last week I turned the defrosters on and the blower motor made a heck of a racket, then poof smoke through the vents. I pulled the motor off to find a mangled mouse in the heater box, and enough corn to plant half an acre. I'll have to see if I still have a wiring diagram for B2's and go from there.

Yeah, actually, as Jeff mentioned, the liftgate switch tends to get messed up, or the retainer breaks off, so it sends the signal to the circuit to turn the lights on and they stay on. I forgot about that (uh, DUH, that's why mine was removed by the previous owner!). Sounds like you may have a blown fuse on your radio and that you'll need a new blower motor for the a/c - heat. Gotta love daily drivers that turn into projects! Hope you get 'er all fixed up soon.

Both my 89s had the same trouble. I had to replace the plastic on the latch post on one and the other the lift gate was so far out of adjustment it wouldn't latch and to top it off that one the gate was cracking out at the hinges. half the time i'd just pull the bulb due to frustration.
