They are somewhat uncommon. Remember the market in '78-'79 for this kind of vehicle.

Even more rare: XLT with a manual!

Also, you can't get a manual in CA in 78-79 due to emission regulations.

I need to run the numbers on this one as it has a custom tag on th out but it has bucket seats, upgraded plush interior to include heavily insulated sides, ac, double shocks in front, cruise etc but no power windows. I remember the packages and i think a guy would have spent more getting a custom with all this than buying a xlt or maybe even a lariet. time to get the registrationpapers out.

The XLT option itself was $636 in 1979.

Do you still have the door rating plate? If so, post the body code, all three letters/numbers under BODY.

NO 73-79 Ford pickups/Bronco had power windows/doors. Broncos never got the Lariat in '78-79.

i'll see what numbers I can get tomorrow....the vin shows '79 with 400...made in MI. It would be cool if it were an xlt...has the pedigree in parts for sure...wondering if they even offered an standard in xlt or if a guy had to go custom then upgrade as desired....never saw a custom with all the stuff this has.

Transmission choices were not restricted by trim levels.

It just may the owner's preferences. It may be a special order truck.

Custom is what it is; CUSTOM. It is the base model that you can throw anything (well, almost, Ford limited some options...) whatever you desire, like customizing it hence the Custom trim.

No power windows/seats on trucks and Bronco's till 1980.

Bronco's are in the car parts books till 1980.

Standard transmissions: 1978 Bronco offered with NP 435 only, and full time NP transfer case only / 1979 offered with both the NP 435 and the Warner 4 speed, and both a full and a part time T/C case. Neither year offered a 3 speed manual.

Ford made a 1978/79 Bronco Trailer Special, Bronco Custom, XLT, and a Bronco Ranger...with the Race Track moldings = top of the line.

Oy vey! I'll have to disagree with that.

Ford refused to offer the full time NP203 chain transfer case mated to a 4 speed transmission. NP203s were only offered with C6s in both years.

You should check again, because Ford never offered a Bronco Ranger. Broncos only had Customs and R-XLTs in 78-79 like Crew Cabs.

I don't know of any. Someone had some for 73-79 trucks in the 73-79 forum. No clue on Broncos.

SORRY, WRONG AGAIN...SEE THE PARTS CATALOG...A PICTURE IS WORTH A 1000 WORDS. WHERE WERE YOU IN 1978/79? I WAS WORKING WHOLESALE PARTS PHONES AT CRENSHAW MOTORS FORD IN LA., WHICH HAD THE LARGEST STOCK OF FORD PARTS WEST OF THE MISSISSIPPI.
Yes they did...pictures of the moldings are in the parts catalog, including the Bronco Ranger nameplate.

What's this??

D8TZ-16720-B .. Nameplate-Bronco Ranger

Or this?

1978 BRONCO - BODY SIDE RACETRACK

D8TZ-9829038-B .. Moulding-Body Side Upper
D8TZ-9829038-C .. Molding-Body Side Lower
D7TZ-9929396-AA .. Molding-Body Side Rear - note that this is the same mldg used with the truck race track mldgs, it's the vertical connector piece.

same catalog...

1979 Transmission Application Chart / Section 70 / Page 9

1979 Transfer Case Application Chart / Section 70 / Page 10

Plain as day....NP435 transmission / NP part time or full time transfer cases are listed.

I spent 35 years behind a Ford parts counter, so I KNOW how to read a parts catalog.

Jermafenser...get one of these parts catalogs, check the references, then tell me who's right.
