I HAVE A 2005 F-250 4X4 XL X-CAB 6.0L DIESEL TRUCK THAT JUST DEVELOPED A ANNOYING DROAN AT ABOUT 1500 RPM WHILE DRIVING. THE DROAN JUST STARTED YESTERDAY AND GOES AWAY AFTER YOU UP THE RPM PAST 1500 RPM AND COMES BACK ONCE YOU GET BACK TO 1500 RPM WHEN YOU SLOW DOWN. (IT ONLY DROANS AT 1500 RPM)
WHILE SITTING IN THE DRIVERS SEAT I CAN HEAR IT COMMING FROM IN FRONT OF THE FIREWALL BEHIND THE ENGINE YOU CAN HEAR IT BEST IF YOU SIT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FRONT SEAT. FROM WHAT I HEAR IT SOUNDS AS BEST AS I CAN DESCRIBE IT A COFFEE CAN THAT SOMEONE IS VIBRATING WITH A SPEAKER UNDERNEATH OF IT WITH THE LID ON IT. I HOPE SOME ONE HERE CAN HELP ME AND KNOWS WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT SINCE I MADE A APPOINTMENT FOR THE DEALER TOMMOROW AT 8:00 AM AND WOULD LIKE TO TELL THEM WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT, THANKS GUYS FOR ANY HELP.

Stock or Aftermarket Exhaust?

Mine did the same thing at 1500rpms but it was my downpipe resting on the firewall.. I have droan as well at 2100rpms but thats the design of my exhaust system.. Never had it down low..

 

i have a 4in cat back mbrp t-409 stainless steel exhaust currently on the system with the muffler delete pipe installed also, this drone/moan only started reciently (8.16.07)
i installed my exhaust system last year and never had any problems until last week.

 

Just an idea.. Know it sucks.. Go out and get under your truck.. Check the section of your DP that curls under to run under the truck.. Check the top side of it to see if you can slide your hand around it between the pipe and firewall.. Mine was fine for about a week and then she got torqued down and against the firewall.. It made this droan noise like an sob and I could hear it just like you.. I fixed my last weekend and it went away.. I loosened everything from the cat delete to the turbo clamp.. Then used a ratchstrap wrapped around the front axle then wrapped around the bend and pulled it back until I could get my hand betwen it.. Tightened the turbo clamp down to nearly the point it would snap.. Then tightened my system down.. No more noise, vibration..

It's worth a try just to see..
