For BFG AT Owners

I have 06' F150 SCREW 150" WB w/ 2" AS Leveling Kit. I know the tire subject is beat to death on here but just want opinions of those running a BFG AT 305/65/18 or 285. I think I have decided on the 305 since I ran 285 on my last truck but just want to get some pros and cons before I drop $1200+ on rubber.

I have the 285's only because they did not have the 305's out yet. I personally would go with the 305's. Either way, IMO, they are the perfect tire.

I went with the 285 / 65 / 20 BFG T/A which are actually 34.6" tall with a 2.5" Autospring kit. 20x9 wheels with 6" backspace and no rubbing at all.

I got 305's a week and a half ago. No rubbing, everything fits great on stock wheels with a 2.5 leveling kit. I'll tell you this I got more compliments for those tires on that truck than anything else i have done to it. I had reservations about ordering them also, but I am so glad I decided to just get em

Put my 305s the test a couple of weeks ago in some nasty terrain and they were AWESOME! I know that this speaks more for the tires than the size but in my opinion the 305s are the way to go. I have pictures in my gallery.

i had a 01 that i put 305's on and it suffored.....that was a 4.6L.....just curious how the 5.4 with 3.73's do with the 305's...

Great question. I have the 285s now, but when they eventually wear down, I hope to move up to the 305s. I have the same setup as you.

Anyone running the factory 20" wheels and upgraded their tires. I like the wheels and already put on the Bilstien 2.5" leveling kit. I would like to go with bigger tires but not much out there in 20's. I had the BFG's on my other truck and loved them.

Thanks, Sarge

According to a couple of your other posts, you also were running 3.55s on that 4.6L...not trying to start anything, just saying...i've driven a 4.6L with 3.55s, I'll keep my 3.73LS thanks...

when I went up to 265s from the 255s, i didn't really notice it much, there is a slight diff, but IMO the 255s are way too small for these trucks...

So I guess the 285's will work without a 2" lever lift?

I do not want to level my truck, because I pull a travel trailer with a 600 lb tonge weight.

But the factory supplied Rugged Trail BFG's are nothing but passenger car tires.
Sure they have some good weight hauling ratings. But these tires suck for towing. Sometimes, I think Ford is stupid.

Ford needs to supply all there trucks, 1/2 ton to beyond with at the very minimum, E rated tires. To do less will put children in jeporday

well, "not saying anything" but if you looked into my other posts that much you would also know that the 4.6L with 3.55's was my last truck....A 2001 F150....5 speed...pics in my gallery...

now my new 2007 F150 has a 5.4L with 3.73's...

sooooooooo, like i said....just curious if you guys seen a drop in performance because if it's like my 2001 with the 4.6L and 3.55's suffored with i went to 305's then i'm not doing it....

basically for every inch you go up in size you will lose aprox. 1 tenth off of your gear....just curious who's went to 305's with my set-up and what kind of performance loss you noticed...

THANKS

I said: "You were running 3.55s on the 4.6L" <-- Notice "were", not "are"
You Say: "4.6L with 3.55's was my last truck....A 2001 F150..." <-- I didn't agrue this fact, I just mentioned it because you left the info out, which people may need, just filing in the gaps...

I'm just saying that its not an accurate comparison, while I still agree that the 4.6L may struggle a little more getting up to speed...

Besides, IMO, if you are running anything larger than 31s, you shouldn't be using a 3.55 out back anyway...if you want 35s, you'd be better off with 4.10s or maybe even 4.30s...4.56s may be a little too much...

Thanks everyone for your posts. You basically confirmed what I already knew but wanted to make sure. I ordered the 305s on Saturday so hopefully they will be here Tuesday.
