I might not have much knowledge about what's what, but I do know that there is ALWAYS somewhere else you can get the parts you need.
I'm not sure what parts stores you could go to. Maybe try searching the yellow pages in your area. Call some of the parts stores and ask them. If they seem to have no clue what you're talking about, call somewhere else. I'm all the way on the other side of the province in a small town that's off the beaten path, so parts stores here aren't a franchise or nationwide.
You could always order online as well.
You could try this place. http://www.rockauto.com/
They do ship to Canada & their prices aren't to bad (depending on the weight). I think my boyfriend paid about $40 for all my ebrake cables. Which beats the aproximate price of $30 a piece here.
Sounds like the guy/s you dealt with at the counter either A)Doesn't care to much about the customers or B)Doesn't know much about parts. I'd be complaining if it were me. When I go to a parts store I want what I ask for and if they don't have it in stock they should at least ask if you'd like to order it. As much as I LOVE Fords, I absolutely HATE going their for parts because they tend to try and sell me something that I don't need and I find their prices way higher than other parts stores.

That's the Ford dealers for you here in Canada, they can't be bother because they think it's to old so they don't even try. I have gone over to Niagara Falls USA, gone into a Ford dealer and asked for stuff rangeing from 10 years old to 40 years old, the guy looked it up and usually say I can have it in 2 days. These are Ford parts too

Give those basic numbers to the pinhead at your local dealers parts counter. The only info he will need is the make, model, and year, whether its 2 or 4WD, and is the shackle at the front of the rear spring or the rear of the rear spring.
Unlike most other auto manufacturers part numbers, which have one number for the group, and then a 7 digit part number, which doesn't include any part of the group number, the group number Ford uses is a part of the actual part number. This means that, for example, 5630 is the basic part number for any shackle..car or truck...what makes the difference is the prefix and suffix. Example: 1965/66 Mustang: C4DZ-5630-A or 1971 Ford pickup: C8TZ-5630-A. If some pinhead can't figure out a simple shackle kit, he better find another line of work.
