momentary lighting switch

i want to rig my parking/running lights with an interupt switch like the big rigs have. i started with radioshack, struck out. been searching the internet for a while now. i am looking for a momentary toggle switch, spst, that is in the normally closed/on position that you can switch to the open/off position then it springs back to normal. anyone know where to get one of these. i am going to try the peterbilt/kenworth dealers near my CAT shop when i go to work tonight. i know someone else out there has done this mod before.

I would like to do this also. I will watch here to see how you do. Sorry I can't help. I would also like to figure out a way to keep my trailer brakes from coming on when I turn on the hazards while going down the road.

the brake lights or the actually electric brakes. if it's the brakes actuating that's not good, your controller is not wired correctly

well the controller gets it signal to work from the brake light circuit. part of that circuit is shared with the turn signal/hazard circuits because they are the same lights. whoever installed it, tapped in on the shared portion instead of the brake light only portion.

Thanks. I will look into this to see what has happened. I believe I was the one who installed it but it has been 10 years ago and can't remember well.

it can get tricky, i dont know the details of how to do it, i just know my experience with working on turn signals/hazards before and getting issues with brake lights too because i wired something wrong but i'm sure someone here knows how to do it.

Thanx Roentgeep. I checked my wiring and it is correct but I do haul around 15,000 lbs and this is only used on extreme hills. I believe I will get one.

Skittle, any luck with the switch from peterbilt?

Good I'm glad you solved the mystery of the switch. I am also sorry that I have skewed this thread towards my question but I believe that we both benefitted. Thanks for your help ang good luck.

dont worry it happens in every thread, we all do it. there's a fine line between hijacking and whatever you call it when we throw our hat into ring when our problem matches the one being discussed.
