96 3.8 windstar cyl 4 mis fire?
OK, well I have a flashing code for a cyl 4 misfire on my Windstar. Im going to replace the wires and plugs on the engine, but what has be baffled is when the light flashes, the engine stumbles, and skips, but if I turn it off, and restart it its fine. Started doing this about once a week, but now its up to twice a day. When its not flashing, it runs great. Any thoughts? Why would it run fine after I shut it off, and restart it?? Thanks for any help!

Hey there. I did the fix, and more...
The plugs were SHOT!!! But I also had a few other thigs going on.
Come to find out one of the most common reasons for the cyl 4 misfires is plugged up EGR ports. I pulled the upper intake off, and all but the last two were plugged, so I pulled the lower manfold, and cleaned them. The lower gaskets tend to leak a lot also, so its a two fold improvement.
So sence I did that [plugs, wires, cleaned egr ports, cleaned Tbody and IAC valve, replaced PCV and replaced a few small hoses] it runs AWSOME!!!!!! At least 50HP more then it was running at before!!
Any more info needed just ask!

I was actually able to 'cure' our problem by taking off and replacing the DPFE sensor with a used one I had from my parts van. So far so good, hesitation is gone and the CEL is off.
Have you or anyone heard of a preventative fix to the EGR clogging problem? I see that guys on the aerostar forum do a Seafoam cleanse, either via the fuel or directly through a brake line vacuum hose of sorts.
Wondering if that might help clean things up a little before having to resort to ripping the whole thing apart...
Thanks
Chris
