Angry It's here but damaged....

Well after waiting what seemed to take forever since first ordering it, the new 08 F450 arrived last friday... but there's a hitch... the damn truck shipping company damaged my new baby. Man I was sick! During shipping the truck had been rubbing the rear outside dually rim on the frame of the truck carrier and the outside of the wheel tub got scratched too. I couldn't believe it when I saw it. Ford surely needs to transport their dually's on different car carriers or those damn drivers need to learn how to load a truck on their carrier. Anyway, they ordered a new rim, removed the outside wheel well and painted it. The body shop manager said he wanted to completely remove the outside tub so he could paint it completly as spot painting and blending wont get it for a 60K truck. The dealership was really great at handling my anger! Thank God the the shipper was gone when I got to the dealership. I've been stewing over this for the past 3 days and am finally cooled off. I get the truck Tuesday the 1st. I also had the dealer put in writing that should the paint repair become visible in the future, they will completely replace the outside tub. The rim looked as though it had been hit with a big ball pean hammer. It wasn't bent just rubbed against. I just hate the fact that my new ride has already been fixed before I even had a chance to drive it. On a brighter side, the truck looks badass! Man these 450's are freakin huge. It sure makes my SRW 350 look like a toy. It's the first time I have even seen a 450 as I don't think anyone in my area has a 450 yet, none of the dealership have them. There's some SRW 250's & 350's floating around but I was amazed at how much beefier the 450 looks. Well Tuesday I get to pick it up and finally drive it, and I can't hardly wait. Thanks for listening, just wanted to vent.........Ding

Oh man, know how you feel. My 99 was hit this past spring for the 1st scratch ever. A guy tapped me about 5pm rear quarter and did $2,000 damage. I was worried about matching the older paint. It had been garaged. It came out so perfect. When I traded they asked the normal question has it ever been in an accident. I explained a small hit and asked them to find it. The body shop manager thought it was a front fender and could not believe it was the rear. Body shops these days can do an absolute perfect match. Enjoy it when you pick it up. If you enjoyed your 350 you are really going to like your new 450

Ding, It is fantastic, can not say enough good things about it. It is very quiet, firm but good ride. Steering and cornering is much better than my 350. turning radius about 12' shorter. Mirrors are really good. Changed my order from 488's to 430's and went with the tailgate step up that I really like. Not a fan of the Wood grain, didn't buy a Tahoe because of it. But Ford did a nice job with the dark woodgrain. Surprised how tight the shifting is for the automatic. When you floor it, goes to about 3200rpms & only drops to about 2900 1st gear then 3200 to about 2800 2nd & 3rd, 4th about 2700. My wifes Armada v8 of course goes to 6,000prms & drops to 4500 during shifts. Have always driven manuals, but after reading and testing Fords 5 speed auto, I am very impressed with how smooth it shifts. The list goes on, Ford did an awesome job on the 08's. Use to be a chevy truck person, but the Ford it way ahead of Chevy & Dodge now, Especially with the 450.

What a bummer, Ding.

That was really smart to document the repair and requirment for a future fix, should it be necessary, in writing.

Let them fix it, and then enjoy the truck from that point on. Glad you like the truck though. Congrats.

Here and fixed

Well got to pick the ride up this past Tuesday. The dealership did an absolute perfect job at fixing the scratches and replacing the wheel. This truck is freakin amazing and such a beast! I still can't believe how quiet the engine is. The ride is as smooth as my SRW 350 was. This truck will turn on a dime. All I've been doing since delivery is playing with all the new features and driving it. I'll take some pictures this weekend and post them...Ding

Ding, great news, knew you would like it. Glad the dealer did the great job like I thought they would. It is hard to explain how great these trucks are until you own one. Look forward to your pics. Enjoy

Maedwards, lucky you were able find the damage right away. did you find it or the dealer? We had an 04 Avalanche, and one day about 4 months after we bought it, I was Waxing the roof and found ours was damaged right at the crease where the top cladding meets the roof. The Chevy dealer salesman was not too helpful, so I had to write Chevy, With pictures and measurements of the car carrier, they did approve repairing it. It is amazing how perfect they can repair. What kiind of vehicle is yours?
