can you do this swap if you have a 4L v6

It's do-able, because Gen III Explorers were available with the 4.6L. The bigger question is, how much time and labor are you willing to invest in this project? Unless you have the tools, space, equipment, donor vehicle and $$$ to do the swap, I think it would be cheaper (and a lot less heartburn) to sell your '02 V6 and buy what you want used.
