Air bags and Aftermarket Bumpers

How do the Airbags Activation sensors work? IE is it an Accelerometer or do they still use contacts? When I installed my winch Bumper I didn't see any kind of Contacts! Someone else asked me.

Unless they have changed, they have a gold plated ball in the sensors and when it moves it activates the air bag.
