97 driveshaft front seal leaking tranny fluid

Hello guys ....just a question on my 97 f-150 2wd , i love this truck to death but last night coming home from a long drive back from tn , i noticed some smoke coming from the rear of the truck. I stopped to ck it out and noticed that there was tranny fluid leaking towards the front of the drive shaft , looks like the seal where the driveshaft goes into the trans had pop out letting fluid run out. I pushed the seal back in to place and it took care of the problem , what would cause this and should i replace the seal....? Thanks again guys for all the info that from this site ..; )

Replace the seal. If you haven't had your u-joints replaced now is the time to do it.
