PT Cruiser vs. F150 Lariat??
In a race which would win?
I have a Ford F150 Lariat Supercrew 4x4 - I did not buy it for speed, I have a Mark VIII LSC with chip/intake/exhaust/shift kit improvements for that (it runs a 14.2 in the 1/4 mile).
My dad said that his new PT Cruiser is much faster than my Lariat . . . he may be right, but I heard the PT Cruisers were REALLY SLOW. I found performance numbers for his car at 8.9sec zero to sixty and a quarter mile at 16.7sec. I have no idea what the F150's factory numbers are.
I'm going to "sup" my F150 up some - chip tuner, mass-air and cat back exhaust. I may even change the gears to a 4.10 from 3.55.
Dad wants to bet dinner on the race (we go to our local raceway a couple times a year and race my 1969 Camaro against his 1997 Z28). I HATE to lose to my dad . . . will I need to spend the money to beat his PT or can I do it stock? I guess I could go out to the raceway first without telling him . . . but was hoping ANYONE here had seen a factory number for these - maybe in a Road & Track review or comparasion test?
Thanks,
Todd

PT Cruiser vs. F150 Lariat??
Sorry Todd, that truck ain't in the 16's stock.
Are all those mods really worth a dinner?
You must be a big eater.
My best stock 5.4L(3.55LS)1/4 time was 15.712@85.14
however, that is 2wd(you are 4x4)
short bed regular cab(you are double cab)
I'm lower stock(you lift, you lose)
I would say you truck stock would be about 17.0 (and I'm being kind)
(I have no idea what a PT cruiser will do)

PT Cruiser vs. F150 Lariat??
Thannks Raoul,
Your 15.7 would tear up the PT - R&T puts a stock PT at 16.7 I believe (or 16.9 I forget). No way my dad turns the same time as a R&T driver with a stick as he has an auto. So, dad should be in the 17's too.
Your right on the mods costing more than the dinner - however, its a pride thing and worth $2k just to beat him (plus it's aways cool to have "reasonable mods").
I spent $7k on my Camaro to beat him just to hide the mods (complete alighn bored, magnafluxed and balance engine with significant rod work, Flat top Forged pistons, Variable lift lifters, slightly larger cam duration/lift, roller rockers, valve train stabalizer, ram-horn exhaust manifolds, hidden MSD 6A - mallory coil and distributor etc. etc. At a glance, my 327cid (now a 330 with the slight overbore) motor looks stock - I even painted my aluminum dual plane manifold black and used black 8mm SP wires and the stock air cleaner. All that plus a rear gear change to 4.56 just to beat him by a couple 10th's (he's running an intake/exhaust kit with a chip and turning 13.7 with his versus my 13.5).
So, its not the dinner - its a winning thing. My Mark VIII will run with about anything on the road short of supercars and still will get me 28mpg's on the highway, my Camaro runs most modified cars, now I just need my truck to take his PT Cruiser for Bragging rights (besides, I really think those cars are ugly!).
Thanks,
Todd
