ExCURSION ELECTRIC HYBRID CONVERSIONS

Hi,

I am new to this forum. I signed up because I have recently discovered the possibility of converting my 2002 Excursion Limited (V10) into a Electric Plugin Hybrid (runs on electricity & gas) . It seems that there may be incentives available, and the cost may not be all that much. It appears that the impression that most of us have is that only small cars can run on electricity. I have heard that this is not the case.

I'm going to do some more research into the fine details and will keep posting updates.

In the meantime I was trying to determine if there is any interest from other enthusiasts?

Thanks, seesync99

Good luck. Read George Will's column here for the costs (financial & environmental)involved ... http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...041102109.html

BTW, no interest from me.

Are you serious? Even if it's possible, why would you want to? A hypothetical hybrid X could never perform ever close to a gas or PSD X. No thanks i'll pass!

If you put a hybrid drivetrain into an ex it would be slow and not be able to tow. If you did that they you be able to put a bumpersticker on your rear bumper that says "I truley have an 8,000 pound hybrid ".

Actually electric motors generate tremendous torque. To think it wouldn't able to tow is...well...silly. Those trains that you see? Well...they all have electric motors that power the wheels. The diesel is only there to run the generator.

The only part of my Ex that I want to be "Electric Plugin Hybrid" is when I plug my Ipod into my aftermarket stereo...or when I plug my tivo into the inverter so that "someone" can whatch tv on long trips. I'll take my diesel straight-up thanks!

I think it's a great idea. If I can save some money on gas (and who doesn't want that?), that would be awesome. Also, I think there are tax breaks on that stuff as well. Again, who wil pass that up?

Lot of my neighbor's and even my mom thought it was funny that i bought my X and i have only drove it a couple of time's since we got it. I bought our X to haul the family on long trips and be able to tow. Ppl crack me up when they complain or wish they got better fuel millage. Your driving a brick wall, through the ocean. I have my car and the wife has her's for our DD.

I do agree that an electric motor can be a torq monster.

Would be nice if you could utilize it for really lond runs and turn it off when tooling around town. The extreme torque would be awesome though.

Well, here's the deal.

I doubt I'll do it because I'm not smart enough to even change the oil. HOWEVER, I AM very interested in hearing how much it would cost, what's involved and what the final result will be.

Count me in for info but don't count me in for actually doing this.

Again, HOWEVER, I'm expecting some money in the near future. IF I get it, then I definitely might be for a daily hauler and then I'll keep my current X as it is.
YES, I HAVE thought of getting a second X. I love this damn thing.

Can't stand the seats but love everything else. Coolest damn vehicle I've had.

George
