stock suspension vs. lift?

My suspension is shot. I have a 03 f250 and it rides horrible. My shocks are shot, end links, and who knows what else. Would it cost much more for me to buy a 4 or 6 inch lift than it would to replace all the stock suspension components? If it is only a couple hundred more for a lift i would rather do that than spend all that money on replacement stock suspension components. I just feel that it is a waste of money to keep it stock if a couple more bucks will raise the truck up, which i eventually want to do anyway. Thanks for any help on this.

I'm not positive, but I think a decent lift kit would be at least a few hundred more. In this situation, I'd just lift it up though.

I am leaning towards a lift instead of spending money on stock parts but i guess i am looking for some justification to buy it. Any recomendations on which lift to go with. I am lloking for as good as ride as can be expected with a lift and of coarse keep value in mind. What about sprins vs. block for the rear? Any thing else i should be looking at when comparing lifts would be appreciated. Thanks

I just replaced my front springs with a 2.5" rough country set and i love the way it rides now. it handles MUCH better and rides a little smoother.i am very pleased. as far as rear blocks, do you tow A LOT? if so then you might want to invest in lifted rear springs, but they are pricy. or you can do blocks in the rear and install a good set of traction blocks. It really depends on how big of a lift you plan on installing. as for brands, i had a procomp 6: and it rode TERRABLE! i took it off and sold it. Donahoe Racing IMO makes the best lift, they use Dever leafs and the ride is great. hope this helps.

I had a Rough Country 4" lift on my old Ram and it rode pretty nicely. The lift was also cheaper than new springs from Dodge. I'm not sure if that translates to the Super Duty, but lifting was cheaper than dealer parts for a factory rebuild on the Dodge.

That's kinda what i wanted to hear. Talking me into getting a lift! Where is a good place to get a lift? I'm thinking a 6" and did some searching and read alot of good about rough country? Anything i should be considering with a 6" lift, additional parts or things that will need to be done? Any advice from anyone who has put one on would be great. Thanks

I would seriously think about the 4.5" or 7" Danohoe racing kit from Truck Toyz. There service and price were great, I plan on doing business with tem again in the future.

I have the Donahoe 5" all spring lift with the adjustable pan hard bar and Donahoe signature shocks on my Excursion. It rides great on road and is amazing off road, lots of articulation and wheel travel. It has completely eliminated wheel hop in sand and snow especially when the toybox is in tow.

The SD is a little different as far the kits go. Here is a link to the 4" SD kit

http://www.donahoeracing.com/prod_de...hp?productID=3

It has Front springs, a box kit to correct steering and blocks for the rear. The 6" kit has front and rear springs

I think the issue is that lift kits replace the springs and shocks and add parts to bring the steering back into alignment, they don't really rebuild the steering system or anything else. So you will have the cost of the lift kit and all the repair parts.

To me the stock suspension was so bad, wheel hop - chatter on dirt roads - lack of travel - etc., that it had to go. I wouldn't spend a penny on repairing it. Plus, I am in sand with a trailer and really needed bigger tires so a lift was a necessity. I would think that a good shop would give you a break on the repairs you need if they did the lift at the same time. It's already on the rack and they are deep into the steering and suspension.

There are pictures on the Excursion in my gallery.

I agree, for the best ride possible, the Donahoe Racing Suspension Systems are the way to go.

Since I don't have a PM or a email.....I'm assuming you mean telephone message.
I do all Truck Toyz sales and tech support online.....and Marty and the guys are at a big show right now.

If you want, drop me an email and I'll get to it tonight or tomorrow if I'm offline.
