Toyota Tundra fails to score five stars in NHTSA frontal crash test

This is the frontal crash test only. I don't think the competition should make much of this because of other safety features. I rode one this week and it had standard stability control, side airbags as well as side airbag curtains (for the head). The brakes are also amazing.
The truck was a short bed with standard cab which is the same as my F-150. I thought the ride and noise level was very similar except the exhaust note of the 5.7 Toyota was louder.

Thanks for the honest report............Tell us more.
I don't think it's fair for me to report comparing my F-250.
1) because it has 65,000 miles on it.
2) because I went a little ape shirt with the off-road suspension.
But compared to my sis's LT, I think the Tundra is ahead in nearly every category except for subjective things like looks. And I do like the 150's gauge/dash look a LOT better.

While I think Ford/GM should jump all over it and try to rip the Tundra any way they can.....I remember like yesterday when the previous F-150 did not fare well in that same test and how many people at this site claimed it was no big deal.

The truck was a standard bed short cab black truck with the sport package. Probably the closest thing they make to a Lightning. Their lightest 4X4 truck with their largest engine gives impressive performance. The sport package $1,500 option on the standard Tundra gives it the SR5 interior, black plastic bumpers and deletes the trailer towing equipment. It's probably the most attractive you can make a rather unattractive truck. With the $1,000 optional wheels, it stickered a little over $31,000.

I think the 97-03 models got a bad rap for the frontal crash tests.
Back in Aug. 06 I broadsided a Chevy S-10 Blazer. Check out my gallery for photos of my old F150 (2002 F150 SuperCab Lariat FX4).
No one was hurt, truck stood up to impact greatly, even the officer thought so. They didn't total the truck, but it cost them $16.5K to fix a truck worth $17K. Traded it in on my current F150 in December. After such a huge accident (complete frame replaced), I just couldn't trust that everything was put back together right.
So I'll save judgement for later on the Tundras rating.

This is so true. Car & Driver, Motor Trend, Truck Trend, blah blah blah blah all worship foreign derived cars and trucks. When they have problems they all seem to keep quiet.
Anyway about Toy failing the crash tests
