Question 1953-1972 FORD F150 & F250 PICKUP TRUCK FENDERS

Looking at a pair of fenders listed as 1953-1972 Ford F150 & F250 pickup truck fenders. One of the fenders has a gas filler hole in that appears to have come from the factory as it has a rubber grommet in the hole. Would these fenders have been for a truck larger than a F100 or did these fenders when used on something newer than a 1956 have this gas filler hole?

I am looking at these for my 1953 F100.

Thanks

Those are 73 and up fenders. The pass side is the same as the 56 but the drivers side has the gas filler or vise versa. They will bolt right up and these were for the f100 and f150's 73-79

I saw that one on ebay. They look good don;t they? I imagine the filler hole could be filled.

The Flareside was not made in '73, 74, and 75. It was reintroduced in 1976, slightly different bed but same fenders. The bed sides did not really have a flare at the top as the top of the bedsides took a 90 degree turn. The last year of this style was 1979. In 1980 they started making different fenders, the more angular style.

Flareside Rear Fenders 1953/1979

NOTE: Ford replaced the original BAAA-16312/3-A 1953/56 rear Flareside fender part numbers sometime in 1957 with the current numbers listed below. They fit ALL 1953/79's. There is NO mention in the 1973/79 Ford Truck Parts Catalog of these rear fenders having a gas filler neck. FIRST use of a gas filler neck in a rear fender was in 1980. These later rear fenders came in either steel or fibreglass.

B7C-16312-A Right Rear Fender (replaces original Ford # BAAA-16312-A)

B7C-16313-A Left Rear Fender (replaces original Ford # BAAA-16313-A)

NumberDummy, I hate to argue facts but they did infact have a gas filler on the late 70's fender. The beds prior to this were called the hay style bed as the sides looked like this at the top \ / and they did not have a gas filler in the fenders. As Abe stated the beds changed in 76. Prior to 75 or 76 the fuel tank was located in the cab. After this it went under the bed therefor the need for the fender hole for the gas filler. They may have the same part # but in 76-79 for that style truck you would have to cut a hole for the gas kneck if they are not showing a specific part number to fit these trucks.

Hope this helps all,
Kevin Bigwin

All I know is what the book shows. Look in the Ford truck parts book for 1973/79. There is only the one part number for a Flareside left rear fender~B7C-16313-A (Section 160, Page 2). Same holds true for the left bed side panel~D7TZ-8327841-A (Section 260, Page 5). There's no picture anywhere in the book that shows a gas filler neck rubber grommet on a Flareside fender, tho there is a part number~D7TZ-9080-A for 1977/79). In the fuel section illustration (Section 90, Page 12), it shows a neck with rubber hose, but doesn't show how it was routed through to the fender. Since there is no specific fender that had these features, the earlier B7C fender had to be modified to work.

I have a 78 F150 4X4 short box Flareside parts truck with the left rear fender fuel filler opening.
It`s too bad about the parts books lack of details at times, it can be a guessing game.

Lack of details aside, where's the part number for a fender with the filler neck opening? There isn't one. All it shows is the earlier B7C fender. As someone pointed out, a replacement fender came with a template to cut the hole.

It sounds to me like the left fender on the new trucks 76-79 for sure had a gas filler there. If you had to order a replacement you got one like they were making them since 1953 and the body man had to cut a hole in it with the template provided. Is this a plausible theory? I have seen these fenders at teh Carlisle Truck show years ago.

It didn't have a hole if you bought it from a dealer it came with a template so you/body shop had to cut the opening, it fact I think I said I had the fender with the template

"They look good don't they?" You were so right! I picked them up today and they are in excellent condition. Will weld the existing gas filler hole shut. There are no dents, minor surface rust on the inside. This is one of those purchases that I came away from feeling great about.
Thanks

I actually have one 54 fender on my truck and i think one of the 76 -79 fenders. I know that when we were doing the body work we cut the bolt flange off one and put on the other( this could have been for rust, but i think the bolt holes were a little different) you might want to check that. Also i did not notice till about a year ago that the bottom of the fenders at the rear are a little differnet shaped. if you were not looking for it you would probly not notice. So if you are using both that should not be a problem. It could have just been the one that I got but i think when we were painting there were 3-4 fenders around so what we did to what has gotten a little fuzzy, but i still think i have one 54 and one 76-79. best of luck
