under the alternator, next to the injector pump is the temp sensor for the high idle and timing advance. make sure it is plugged in. it is hard to reach, a pair of needlenose pliers will help. if the wire is loose on the sensor, they both will not work.
i did not even realize mine was off and not working till i put glow plugs in last year and saw the plug off of it.

Remember the cold start solenoid/Fast idle solenoid does NOT push the fuel lever..... you must step on the fuel pedal and with the key on the FI solenoid will fill in the space and hold it on until the Engine temp switch opens and shuts of power at 112*f. Tell Ford you want it for $97.45 or you'll get it of the net.

E5TZ12B526A $129.93 sell $97.45
Fuel system - Fuel induction - Diesel injection pump - Idle speed control
IDLE SPEED CONTROL, E250-350 Vans, w/o Tachometer 1992 - 1996

There is a Ford advertiser on this forum states "lowest prices" let's see if he steps up to the plate........ check for him..... 1-800-532-0819 Pacific Standard Time... the part # does not come up on his search feature.

When you say it popped do you mean it popped out againt the throttle lever? if it did then it worked.. you have to open the throttle it wont do it by its self just holds it open..

My guess is the connector is off the temp sensor.

Here is a picture I took while mine was out and enough stuff was removed to see it without looking straight down on it.

I wonder if anyone modifies their truck to handle actually moving the throttle lever on its own? When I remote start my 91 7.3 f250 in the cold it doesn't get up to the desired 900 or so cold idle RPM until I go out and press the throttle. Would be nice if that wasn't the case and it idled high (until warmup) from the remote.

You can use a bump up solonoid such as the ones used on an Onan generator. It pulls in which would be hooked to the throttle leaver via small ball chain.

Temp sensor

Dave S.
If the temp sensor in your picture has broken leads would that cause it to not start

Without that engine temp switch operating... the fast idle and timing advance would not allow the engine to start easily......that is for sure.

i have been trying to figure that one out because i have had some starting, running issues, but i had mine disconnected and it ran. then i ran it out of gas. Somewhere it said that the cold start solinoide removes air from the injection pump. . is that true?
