Ranger Shift ****
Does anyone know where I can find a factory shift **** for a '96 2.3L 5sp. I have looked all over the net and none of the OE ford part websites seem to have them. I am just tired of the stupid aftermarket ***** falling off and i would much rather go back to the stock ****. thanks

I had the same problem with my last truck. I ended up drilling & tapping a hole through the base of the **** and shifter. If you don't find a factory one it's an option. Have you tried applying threadlocker to it before you put the **** on? I didn't have the option of going back to a stocker though, I broke it off. I miss powershifting that old Jeep at 8 grand.

I don't know to tell you the truth. It was easy to change, there was a spline that stuck up, the shifter slide down over it and then just tighten the bolt on the side. You could ask a tech at the ford dealer, they should know. Or maybe someone here will chime in with thier wisdom. How about it Number Dummy, will an 04 shifter fit a 94, both have the M50OD ?

I've been told that the early m5od had the shifter attach to the top of the transmission in a different way. The late ones (like mine and Wendell's) have a stud that runs from the drivers side through the shift handle and then through the piece that comes out of the transmission. The early ones apparently had a bolt that ran front to back. So, if you look under the boot, and if the attaching nut is on the right side, the newer shift handle should fit fine. If the attaching nut is on the front or rear, then it won't fit. I'm not sure when it changed, but it was before 98, according to my source.
