I have a Kenwood TK880 mounted in my truck. I was going to go with a hockey puck type antena mounted through the roof, but the installer did a glass mount cell phone type antena that works really well. I have the same range as the Ambulances I work with.
I also have a scanner mounted in my glove box and the antena just lays in the glove box and I get pretty good reception.

I have a uniden BCT15 digital scanner and a midland 79-290 digital CB. Both of mine go through roof mount antennas that I keep covered when the antenna are not on. The cover don't even go any higher than the roof rack. We drive so much that they are nice to have incase something happens, plus they are the BEST radar detector that you can have (I also run a cordless Passport Solo)

I have a ball-mount on the back bumper for my CB. It is placed on the left corner of the rear bumber on the flat part. It is far enough outward that it doesn't interfere with the door opening, as long as the little keepers that hold the doors at 90? is used on that side.
However, becuase the body of the car would cover up so much of a 4' loaded whip, I use a 102" steel whip. It usually doesn't rub, but I keep a tennis ball on it anyway.
Hope that helps

I went the easy way out and got a Hustler magnetic mount antenna. I now have a yakima rack to cover up the base (with the ferring) when I'm not using it. It gets the job done, I'm no huge CB guy but I always her the roof is the best place for an antenna. Plus, my setup is 100% removable w/o any holes and my radio is not only portable but also stays out of sight when not in use.
Not the best picture, and I haven't taken any new ones since I got the rack but this is what I got...
If you want better pics or want any more info let me know and I'll snap some new ones for ya...

In my gallery there are pictures and the model number of the Diamond antenna mount attached to the driver's rear corner of the hood on our Excursion. This particular model is an NMO mount but they are available in others. It's not the best radio spot on the vehicle but it doesn't create any clearance problems and it's easy to remove the antenna when not in use. It's primary use is amateur radio but there is no reason why you couldn't do the same thing for a scanner or base loaded CB antenna.
