man I'm soooooo jelous I have been looking for one for 5 years now can't find one with a good body ... I find them without titles good body ...the ones that have titles bod shot.... I have a few laying around ... I raced these cars circle track (dirt) we can make a 2300 scream... on that five speed your looking for get one out of a 88+ mustang (t-5) watch out for the ones in the merkurs they have a bushing that goe's out... also if you get a t-5 out of a v-8 mustang the input shaft is a little bigger than the 4cycl models .. we ran my 88 stang motor with t-5 at 7500rpm's all night...

Gas tank issues weren't a problem on the wagons, tho Ford did offer a free kit to upgrade the tank with the shield and new filler neck. The kits were installed free by the dealers. Never heard about bad waterpumps, but the 4 speed shifters were crap...until 1977, when Ford finally offered a better shifter. It's a bolt in for all the 71/76 Pintos. Inre to your question on rear ends in another thread..you can do a bolt in swap...the V6 Pinto wagons came standard with an 8 inch dropout. Same rear end was used in 1975/78 Mustang II's with the V8.

fox body use a coil sprung rearend a pinto has a leaf spring also I think ther was something diffent on the 72 from the 74 models on the rear end the placement of the center bolt moved the rearend foward or backwards I read it some where on a swap....
here a cool thing find a granada some model have 8 inch rear put it under with the front rotors and have a 5 lug pinto... but the fox body can supply you with a better 4 speed or 5 speed also look for a fairmont some had 4 cycl also you could swip one of them trannys...
