flat panel tv antenna?

I just installed a 10" monitor with DVD player and TV tuner in the van last weekend and ran a co-ax cable down the side to install the antenna later. I just saw the amplified flat panel tv antenna that tucks into the headliner. Anyone using one of these? How good is the reception?

Thanks,

In-car reception is going to be mediocre at best - no matter what type of antenna. Personally I have never used an 'amplified' antenna that made an ounce of difference - just like with FM antenna 'boosters' all you are amplifying is a weak noisy signal. The larger hoodliner type do seem perform better than the cell phone style window mount units. Ive also had good luck with the diversity antennas and the good old rabbit ear style - although they are not real attractive when installed.

You will get better reception when stationary - signals are very hard to capture when in motion. Dont set your expectations to high!

I planned on getting a set of "rabbit ears" until my wife saw them and asked if there was something hidden that would suffice. Maybe I'll just get the rabbit ears and hide them behind a panel.

The benefit of the rabbit ears will be lost if you place them behind a panel. The best thing about them is the fact they can be adjusted - just like the ones at home back in the day. In minivans I usually mount them on the side rear glass, in the lower corner, with the antenna(s) pointing to the rear of the van. That way when its not in use it lays along the lower trim panels and isnt as noticable - and when needed can still be adjusted for better reception.
