NV4500 and NP205 ??

I am installing a Cummins engine and NV4500 transmission in my '79 4X4 Super Cab. I purchased a Dodge 4X4 truck with the engine and transmission, and has a NP205 attached to the NV4500. My question is will my NP205 from the Ford fit on the NV4500 with out buying an adapter?

Wow, old thread I'd forgot about. Things I have learned in the past few years...

To use the NV4500 from a Dodge, and I *assume* any NV4500 would be the same, you will need an adapter kit. Ford NP205 input and the NV4500 output shaft won't match up so you will need the adapter shaft that comes with the kit. I used an Advance Adapter kit. (I don't remember the part number) You can buy them direct but look around on the net, several 4X4 sites have them for less than Advance sells them for.

I spent a day building a linkage for the transfer case shifter. It wasn't that hard but the $45 linkage from Advance would have allowed me to spend my time on other items.

My #1 bit of advice for anyone doing this swap is buy a complete donor truck. They can be found for less than a couple thousand, I've bought two for conciderably less. I know I would have spent hundreds or even thousands more at the parts store if I had bought one of the engines I had looked at. Fan, starter, radiator, clutch, power steering pump are a few things that come to mind. Everyone you talk to will tell you a certain year is the best, but the early Cummins is all mechanical and there will be little wiring issues. If you have the whole donor, that is not as big of a problem as you will have the computer and wiring harness. If you use a '94 up Dodge donor, you can use the transfer case from the Dodge and not have to buy the adapter.
