Just did my fule filters for the first time today ... truck started fine got a half mile away and died.. got it going after 20 min but VERRY rough died again had to get it towed.. Any info ANYONE can give
did you turn the key to on, without starting it 3 or 4 times for 30 seconds each to purge the air from the system? If it's not that, then I don't know what the answer is.
You'll prob have to remove the filter cap and check to see if you pulled old seal out before you put in new one.....or you didn't get cap on all the way. Did you change both upper and lower filter? Just recheck your work...bet you find the problem.
What brand of filters did you use, by chance not a Wix or Purolator? If so, run to the local Ford dealership, or International Truck Dealer, and get a set of OEM motorcraft/racor filters and swap them out per the instructions in the tech folder at the top of the forum.
Whats the problem with the Wix filters? I just picked a set up but haven't installed them yet. I've used wix on all my other Ford trucks and haven't had a single problem.
I'd pull the chasis filter and check the o-ring. Also, the make sure the cap is fully seated. The flange on the cap should sit flush with the filter housing.

Wix filters suck. In the beginning they re-packaged the oem racor filters, then they got greedy and engineered their own "will fit" version. In a word they don't fit right and leak, fuel and oil filters. This has been a issue for some time now. Beechbum actually sent a leter to Parker Hannifin Corporation and recieved a very detailed response back explaining what problems the "will fit" filters were causing.
ooooh u are making sense i hate to admidit it but when i was putting the cap back on i was not happy with the way it was sitting bit not very concerned about it... u guys might be right on the money... i so hope u r right
I haven't much looked at where the filters are. Is it quite a task to change them out? I see Advance Auto has Motorcraft FD4604 for $44.88, is that all that's needed? The Ford dealership was generous enough to send me a "coupon" for $149.95 fuel filter maintenance.
You can get them at an International Truck Dealership for $32. As to your original question that is all that is to it. Ford gets $100 for the set. The tech folder has very simple and detailed instructions as to how to change them correctly.
If you don't already have one, I'd get the oil/fuel filter cap removal tool. It's like a really shallow socket that fits the hex on the caps. Comes in especially handy on the chasis filter as space is a premium in that location. You should be able to find one at practically any auto parts store. Got mine at Pep Boyzzzzz. Other than that, you should be set. Changing them out is a piece of cake. Go to the tech folder at the top of the 6.0 forum and you'll find detailed procedures of how to do the change. Read up, get your filter kit and tool and then you can rock and roll.
