which shocks?

my truck is in desperate need of new shocks. i was considering getting a dual shock hoop for the front shocks. would it be significantly smoother?

and what kind of shocks. i had the doetsch shocks on my wrangler and liked them but don't know how they'll do on a heavier rig? i was also looking at the pro comp 3000 and 9000s. or the rancho 5000. input on these would be great. oh... this is on a non lifted 4x4 f150.

i serisouly doubt you need dual shocks up front. really the only guys that need those are the desert pre-runners that see some serious air time. in fact i have heard on numerous accounts that the dual setup actually canceled each other out and the ride was rougher than stock. you'd be surprised what a good set of yellow monroes from napa will do, esp on a stock truck

Amen on the Monroe Gas Matics! I installed a set on my 95 GMC (had to replace them after installing the lift kit) Jimmy and was very happy with them. I also had a set on my 84 F150 when it was still stock and they held up very well. I now have BDS shocks on my F150 and I am happy with them so far. I have Heckethorn shocks on my Jimmy and they are okay, but I like the BDS better.

so you think the napa shocks would be better than some aftermarket shocks.

No they wouldn't be better, but they would work pretty good. I have some on my truck, and they're holding up good.
Other than that, I wouldn't put the Rancho 5000s, they're over priced(paying for the name). Any nitrogen charged shock will work just as good as a 5000. I bought skyjacker nitros, which are same quality, but cheaper, but there are even cheaper good quality shocks(pro comp, ect...).
I was looking around on ebay the other day, and found a company selling 4 skjacker nitros for $130 with free shipping.

Also, 4 shocks up front isn't worth it, and like fish said, actually makes the ride worst.
Ok, I shut up now.

ive always ran the procomp es 9000's and i love them, rides like a dream, there a bit pricy compared to the monroes. i wouldn't worry about making it dual shocks setup with a stock lift, besides, it doesn't make that much of a difference, ive always ran the single es9000's and my dad has the dual es9000's, and his truck just rides a little rougher than mine.

Fishy:
Do we have to be from Alpharetta to go over and have a beer with you and KO? I have already had a bad week, and it is only Monday. I could use an excuse to load up the truck on the trailer, and head out for a road trip. Especially if there is a dirt / muddy / rocky / or sandy road at the end. Oh yeah, and a beer! Or two,,,Or threeeeee.

Also, my apologies for the participation in the thread hijack....

I hear ya there! Ecxept it is mandatory that we have at least a few before we even think about makin a hole (out here).
I think I will go out and find something to do on the truck. I always have someting around here that needs some fixin, or at least changin. I guess it would have to be broke to need to be fixed. Maybe, I will have a few 'coldies' around here and take a raincheck with you and KO. But know that if I have another day like today, I just might end up out there lookin for you guys. Guess we should give the thread back huh?

I just replaced my Ranchos with the Procomp es9000's. Big difference, I'm real happy with the ride and the set of 4 with $214.00 cdn. I thought that was a pretty good price.
