Do I need a special intake?

I've got a 96' f-250 Ext cab 4x4 w/ a 5.8l 351w. Love my truck wont more power. It's a 5spd so computers do nothing for me. I have A 1" heli spacer in the intake, custom exhaust la,la,la.... Here's my question.. I want to get in the motor a little, drop in some GT40 heads, cam, cam gear, elec. fan , msd... Do I need a special intake for the GT40 heads? I've heard some talk of it but no deffinate answers.

No you don't "need" a special intake for the GT40 heads, but any car style intake will produce more HP than the stock intake, even with the factory heads. You can also match the flow of the GT40 heads with a porting job on the E7 heads, or look at a set of Thumper Performance E7s, and a cam with 0.500" lift will also help fully utilize whatever heads you use.

That sounds more plesant to my wallet.. A good friend of mine who is also a master tech for ford thought I needed a matching intake. But you say different. You say I can pull one off a car possibly. I do a lot of mud racing here in MO. I run in the stock class And havn't been winnig much since the new rule change. It used to be u had to be all out stock but now they limit the class to 35" tires and ability to pull 14lbs. of vaccume. Well im roughly 2sec slower than the 383 stroker on methanol i've been running against, so i need to open some whoop-a** next spring. I still drive it everyday, on the farm pulling, and sorts Im geared perfect I just need more grunt without going radical

Well not exactly, you didn't say what your goals are until now. The best "stock" intake for HP on the 5.8 is the GT40 or Lightning intake. The 5.0 Explorer had a cast version of this, but you'll need the 5.8 specific lower because the block is about 3" wider than the 5.0 block. For a cam look at the Comp Cams 35-349-8.
