REAR SUMP Y-BLOCK OIL PAN?
I spoke with Fat Man Fabrications today and they require a rear sump on all V8 swaps. MIne really perplexed them since I am keeping the Y-Block. They said they have mounts for everything except the Y-Block. They also said that it would be very hard to do and that I could not retain the front engine mounts. I don't understand this as the front crossmember is 14" in front of the axle centerline. I'm still checking. This uses the Mustang IFS and the rack steering gets in the way of the pan. I should have a good tech article when I get through.

REAR SUMP Y-BLOCK OIL PAN?
by using the front engine mounts, this swap would be a breeze! Have you thought of cutting your oilpan and reversing it? The major problem would be making sure that the sump tube, that you would surely have to make, did not hit the crankshaft. Unless you are running a supercharger, there is room to raise the engine some, too.

REAR SUMP Y-BLOCK OIL PAN?
I'm hoping that a rear sump pan will clear the IFS. I studied the IFS install last night and I can see no reason to remove the front crossmember. They even say to tack weld a top and bottom piece of angle iron to the front frame rails to stabilize the frame when you cut out the factory crossmember. then they show a picture of a 79 F100 with the crossmember UNDER the original motor mounts. Where they show the angle iron tacked is where my front crossmember is. I don't think that they are familiar with the frame setup on my truck. Their kit is based upon frame width not so much as vehicle. the guy on the phonbe was giving generic answers. I may be wrong but I don't think so. They even said I could TRIM the crossmember and weld it back into the frame boxing. Looking at their pics the boxing doesnt go up that far. I will box up to the front crossmember which is further than they show. I do not believe cutting it out and then rewelding it makes sense. If I can find a automatic FORD-0-MATIC bellhousing from a truck with the transmission mounts on it I'll be set. One that I can AFFORD!!! Your thoghts and feedback are appreciated.
