Blizzard of 2006 stories

OK, new topic. What did you do with your truck here in CO over the past couple days? I spent the afternoon knocking down 3-5 drifts on my neighbor's driveways. Wish I had a plow and could have helped more. Interesting note is that I got no help myself because my neighbors knew I could get out and I also have a blower. No problem there and I took vacation days anyway. So what happened with you guys on the Front Range? Any stories to tell?

I had fun: My road is a dead-end, on a hill, has a crown. The access is at the top of the hill, the turn around at the bottom. One neighbor got his little Toyota truck out and around once, got stuck pulling back in his driveway. Another neighbor had his Dodge 2500 warmed up, borrowed a strap and gave the Toy a tug. The Toy makes it to the bottom of the hill and gets sucked into the gutter. The Dodge managed to pull him about 10 feet uphill before the rear broke loose, putting him a little close to a parked car, so we unhook. About halfway up the hill the Dodge gets off the top of the crown, gets sucked into the gutter: Now we have two trucks stuck.

Yet another neighbor had a huge deisel F-350 with duals out back, decent A/Ts on. As he backs up to the Dodge I run for a heavier strap, thinking the Ford seems to handle the snow pretty well. It did not do well enough to free the Dodge: Between 8 good tires there was not enough traction to get the job done. As we unhooked the Ford I thought of how the driver knew to stay off the throttle; the other two tried to dig a hole to China.

I had to excuse myself for a moment. When I came back outside the Dodge had been freed up. I walked to the Toy, dug around the tires and hopped in. Bump the clutch I get movement, add up a lot of minor movements I get travel. With travel I have a path packed down well enough to build some momentum; the Toy pulls out. A couple more little stucks in the turnaround and the Toy is going up the hill to it's driveway.

I hid the tow straps and had some breakfast: Its nap-time!

rikfish is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
Hmmm, we had no real problems here in the Banana Belt......other than icy roads and tumbleweed drifts up to 15 feet deep or so.....

Seems the entire front range got nailed with the exception of pu-town.

I'm not really sure of the total inches that we got here in Aurora. But I was already pushing chevys out of the way at 1pm on wednesday. The Bronco drove like a trooper the whole time my son and I were out. The only problem I had was that the washer pump stopped working on the way home.

I think this was not as much snow as '97, but the the wind was a heck of a lot worse. I still have a four foot drift that the Snowplow laid down and now I have a kinda "back lane" to get out of the drive. We looked pretty much like the pix that Hypoid posted, about 30" flat and up to 6' drifts on the south side. Wife hasn't even pulled her little Vibe out yet, LOL. Still no mail delivery since last Wednesday. Anybody got mail yet? I plowed out a lane for them, but who knows if they will actually make an attempt with any snow on the road.

PS. More CO pictures in the 6.0L PSD forum if you haven't seen them.

Yeah, my wife went to visit a G/F in Aurora, said it's much worse there. Don't worry Rick, your snow is on order. LOL

So Chili, do you work at Phil Long?

heh I had a blast in Grumpy he made it through blizzard of 82 "pushing snow up to the bumper all the way home from work" as dad told us as kids, now I have the truck, and he made it through every blizzard ever since including this one, my 06 was buried in the parking lot, thanks to my neighbors who dug out their jelly bean cars so they couldnt go to work the next day so, Grumpy was in the garage ( I live in a condo) I made 2 laps around the lot before going to work with pride, watching everyone else digging out their mini vans and jelly beans, and I laughed thinking about how much fun they made of grumpy bc he aint pretty, but I made it to work

Hypoid, sorry just saw your question. No, I don't work there but they take good care of me. I think they are an honest dealer and they have always done me right. Here's a link to one of my posts on them.

LOL I wondered about the link. They sponsered Fordfest at Bandimere last year, the "discount tickets" were free. My wife had to drive to one of the lots in town here to pick them up. We had a blast: http://www.rmftc.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=518

On the other hand, Truckfest offered us $2/each off general admission for myself and 3 teenagers. Cheap bastiges! We had Papa Murpheys and rented some video games for about half of what it would cost to get the crew in. We all got over it!

Unfortunately my truck stayed parked at my parents the entire time, as it has been for two months now. I took my explorer out a few times praying someone would nail it and total it but no such luck.
