5.4 and 4.6 engines gas mileage
Ok i have a 4.6 and i get around 15/17Mpg and other people i know have the 5.4 and they get 14/16Mpg shouldnt they be getting less the that i meen or should i be getting more because the 4.6 is a smaller engine and it would seem like it would be a lot better then the 5.4 not just a mile or two?

finally an honest mpg figure i have a 4.6 4X4 s/cab and i get 13-14 and this is actually figuring the miles driven and dividing the # of gallons to f-up the tank. 14 when i keep my foot out and 13 when i, well you know. this is stop and go city driving.

I usually get lower mileage on my vehicles compared to what other people get.
I mean, my '00 Mustang 3.8L 5-speed-manual (41,000 miles) can get only 15-16 mpg (Ford said it should get 20 mpg), my '97 Intrepid 3.5L 4-speed-automatic (97,000 miles) can only get ~15 mpg (Dodge said it should get 17 mpg, so its not a huge difference), and my '05 F-150 SuperCab 4x4 4.6L (3,600 miles) never get more than 11-12 mpg.

the quickest way to raise your MPG is to quit making jackrabbit takoffs. ease into the throttle and slowly accelerate. I can consistently get 15 mpg in the city by doing this. i've seen 19 mpg on the highway with cruise set at 65 mph
however, I do have a lead foot, so I usually range 13-15 mpg because I like to utilize the power of my 5.4

Tylus... you hit the nail on the head! Along with the other post about not hammering the throttle off the line. If you don't drive these trucks like they are race cars, you will be rewarded with decent MPG. I drive mine without jumping the gas off the lights and see 16-18 on a mixed drive. It is 30 miles one way to work. The speed limit is between 35 and 55. I do 35 in the 35 zones (about 7 miles) and I usually set cruise at 63 the rest of the way. No problems to date!
