Right Sounding Mufflers

To put on a 1950 F-1 with a 239 flathead. I want a low throaty sound or rumble but I'm not interested in waking up the neighbors. Mufflers to go on a dual setup with headers. 26" Smithy's have been suggested. Any thoughts?

Why not flow-masters? As long as you don't go too huge on them, they won't blow out like glass-packs do, and have a nice low sound, I think all of the muffling effect is done by specially angled baffles inside rather that fibreglas insulation like in most mufflers. I saw a cutaway once, and was interested in how the effect was achieved. They usually start around $50 each I think (try a supplier like Jeg's or Summit, one of them carries them I know), and if you stayed with the low end ones like that, it shouldn't be too quiet.
