3inch body lift on 79 f-150

hey guys I have all of the lift blocks for a 3inch body lift. I want to install it on my 1979 f-150. I heard that the body lifts are hard on the body mounts is this correct? Also I was wondering what all needs to be modified to put this 3inch lift on my truck? Also is there anythign else i will have to buy so i can put this lift on my truck? remember i only have the lifting blocks thats all.
thanks,
Jimmy

Modify? Is the kit you bought made for another vehicle? If so, which one?

Usually, there are other linkages that have to be raised with a body lift (steering shaft, t'case shifter if it is body mounted, radiator, etc.)

You'd be better off throwing those blocks.
You'd have to get all new bolts(should be grade 8), and lengthen your transfer case linkage, transmission linkage, make somthing to lift your fan shroud up, and hope it doesn't put your steering shaft it a bind, you'll need new shocks, plus you will see your frame and bumper hanging down, which I think is just ugly.

IF you'd do a suspension lift, then all you'd need for a 4" lift would be coils($115), c bushings($25), trac bar drop bracket($30), grade 8 bolts for a shackle flip in the rear($12ish), and if you want you could put a drop pitman arm($50)it isn't needed, but wouldn't hurt, and you could get some shock for about ($120-160).
Then you won't have the head ach of cutting and welding all kinds of extentions for the body lift, and you will have better flex off road, without the ugly look of the frame and bumper hanging down.

drop the front coil towers and flip your rear shackle mounts upside down, that will give you an easy 2 inches

what do you mean by drop the front coil towers? do you mean unbolt the towers and lower them 2inches redrill new holes and bolt them back into place? Pleae let me know. Also how much work will it be to take the coils out and everythign to do so?
thanks,
Jimmy
Also doing the shackle flip does that make your rearend come closer to the front of the truck a little bit?
thanks again!

It would be a hell of alot easier than doing a body lift. Besides, body lift should not even be an option, or even a thought. Basically, there are 2 bolts per side to get the spring out, two more per side to get the shock loose, then its just a matter of torching/drilling/grinding out the rivets that hold on the spring towers. Then measure up a few inches and drill the holes in the spring tower. As for the rear, just jack up the rear end, put it on stands, support the rear axle with a floor jack, remove the rear leaf spring bolt, torch/grind/drill the rivets out of the spring perch, flip it over, (you may have to drill a few holes here too), and bada boom, you just gained some inches of lift, without doing something stupid, like adding a body lift. Heck, if you live in the midwest, I'll do it for you, for a nominal fee, but you'll have to come to me. Heres a link of the exploded view of your front suspension http://broncograveyard.com/images/ca...SUSPENSION.JPG

about 3 inches, and no the rear end will not move closer to the front when doing a shackle flip, because the front hanger is staying in the same place.

well, the axle does move forward a miniscule amount, because the front stays in the same location and the back pivots down and foward. Now if you went crazy with longer shackles and didnt relocate the fronts then it will move forward alot, and your pinion angle will be way to high.

after i lower the spring tower i gues its always a good idea to put a extra piece under the frame oso you can put the other two bolts in it to help hold the shock tower into place once relocated.
