I did a test this summer, coming out of the Eisenhower tunnel in Colorado put transmisson in neutral and reset MPG to 00.0 coasted for at least 10 miles, breaking at 80 mph a couple of times. suprised me to only see mid 20's on mpg meter
It's called "remote start" lazy....
Probably more like 8 - 10 minutes now, but when winter finally decides to come south, I like my truck toasty and defrosted when I get in....
Since you let the truck idle alot, be sure and run it HARD once it is up to full temperature to burn off any deposits in the EGR system and turbocharger made by the low idle temperature.
I'm not sure about GPH, but I've heard that 1 hour of idling is equal to 33 miles driven,
I'm Not sure if their is any truth to this,It's just what I heard.
Not sure about hard, strict numbers on the subject but I do know this- I was forced to leave my truck idling once for 9 hours (cold outside and had a faulty GPCM) and it didn't use a full quarter tank of fuel, so I'm not so certain about the 33 mile equivalent.
OK guys, when cold(coolant 55),idle at 800 rpm, it was saying 1.1 GPH.After I got to work and warmed up(170),and idling at 600 rpm, it says 0.8 GPH.
Were did you get the Scan Gauge??? During the winter there are times when my truck will idle for hours. When its -60 and you are hours from the nearest town you dont shut off the truck.
