Can my Expedition safely tow this trailer?

Guys I am thinking about buying a Haulmark Elite II enclosed car trailer so I can tow around my road race SC once its running. I talked today to the son of the guy that owns it and he thinks its about 26 foot long and that it weighs about 3800lbs. Now my Expedition is rated to tow about 8000 or 9000lbs factory. So if that weight of the trailer is correct and factor in about 3000lbs for my SC I will be close to my max tow rating. What I am worried more about though is the drag that this trailer is going to induce on my Expedition while towing down the freeway at around 75mph. I'm worried that I am going to run out of power with my Expedition. I do have one trick up my sleeve though in the power department for my Expedition but I wont go into that just right yet but all I'll say is that there are many 99-04 F150s out there at benifit from it So tell me guys what you think, oh and here are some pics of the trailer that I am thinking about buying. They are asking $4200 for the trailer but I think I can knock them down to about $3500-3800 for it.

That shouldn't be a problem for the truck. It certainly won't be a sport truck, but you have the car for that, right?

PS: Ever heard of UMTC?

What does UMTC stand for?

I guess I should have mentioned that I have a '99 Expy EB 5.4L with 109k on it.

And this is the car I am planning to put in that trailer

I was towing a car trailer, not quite this long, but I was towing my 83 extended cab S-10, that had about 3000LBS of Stereo equip in it, and it towed it like there was nothing even back there, no problems at all.

Chris I think I have heard of that site before. I am a regular of the Super Coupe Club of America www.sccoa.com.

So do you think that I'll be ok? I am thinking about putting a Lightning supercharger on my expy to help it out a bit. Is that a good idea or bad idea?

I know one of the founders of UMTC, Dubbsy.

Yeah, you should be just fine. The lightning supercharger is a pretty easy swap on these trucks. I also know a guy who has done a few lightning blower swaps and sells the parts to do them. Let me know if you want his contact info for the swap.

He took me for a ride in his f-150 screw last fall and let me say, that thing hauled some ***. I have never felt a truck pull that hard.

I have a 5.4 and pull my Travel Trailer to Fla from CT. You'll have no problems. Don't underestimate the power/hauling cap of your Expy. Just last week my wife loaded almost 2000lbs of food for the food pantry into the back. It was packed from the front seats to the back door.
She was boasting to her friends that this load would be no problem because, after all, we pull a 25ft TT with no problem. Later that day I had to remind her that we PULL it, not HAUL it in the back. As stated earlier, you have the vehicle for the go fast part.

Weight will be no prob, but I wouldn't recommend going 75mph. If you need to stop quickly you won't.

Electric brakes (or surge) are a must.

Just joined today, so I'm a little late in replying to this thread. I tow a 30ft. travel trailer with my 99 Navi. It weighs about 6000lbs. I have a Paxton SC and power is not a problem. You will probably need a WD hitch if you exceed about 5000lbs in the trailer. The trailer looks about as long as my 30ft. Mine is too long for my Gator's wheelbase, but I compensate for that with an anti-sway hitch. You may find some good infor in the following link. http://www.rvtowingtips.com/index.html
Its about TT, but the principles apply.

Your expy is rated for 7900lbs max. Now, I don't know about the rest of you but I find it very hard to believe that that trailer only weighs 3800lbs. Even my boat trailer for a 26 foot boat weighs 2000lbs and its of course NOTHING like that. The only way to be sure is put it on a scale. But my hunch is that once its loaded up you will be well over the 7900.

BP's right - get it weighed before you buy it! Estimates are almost always on the low side.

As long as you don't exceed the tongue or trailer weights, you will be fine. 75 miles per hour is too fast. Make sure you air up the trailer tires and test those electric brakes.
