Door locks for 1958 F-100

My 1958 doesn't appear to have ever had door locks. Has anyone had any experience putting some in? How's easy is it and where can I locate the parts? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Door locks for 1958 F-100

I put one on the door of my 55. However, the passenger side had a lock so I had something to use as a template. It was pretty easy to cut & measure. I think No Limit sells templates with a set of locks.

Sacramento Vintage Ford has all the parts (cylinders, pads, clips and levers). Chapter 12 of the 1958 Ford Truck Shop Manual covers removal and replacement. On my truck, the locks are centered 4+13/16 inch below the center of the handle button. There should be a slot under the weather stripping straight back from the lock location, which is where the retainer clip would be installed. The slot and the clip should help you get the hole in the correct location. The lock to door pad should give you a good template for the hole itself. The lever engages holes that should be in the door latch assemblies. Between the Vintage Ford Catalog illustrations, the Shop Manual and looking at your door parts, you should be able to see how it all goes together. There are links to Sacramento Vintage Ford and a good place to buy shop manuals on my web page listed below. If you'll email me from the link at the bottom of my web page, I'd like to add you to the list of 58 F-100 owner email addresses I'm collecting.

Hope this helps,

You mean you don't have ANY door locks at all? Not even on the passenger door? The Custom Cab versions got a driver's door lock, but I thought every model at least had a passenger side lock.
How about installing a power lock, controlled from the alarm? You (will) have an alarm, right? So why not let it take care of the door lock as well? The actuators cost around $10, and all you need apart from the alarm system is a couple of relays. A lock/unlock switch for inside the truck is optional, since you can still lock the doors manually from inside.

My truck also only has a passenger side lock...what is the point of this? Did our grandfathers park next to a wall and then scoot out the passenger side?

Well at that period in time & in Most states it's still on the Vehicle Code Books, that it is Illegal to Exit On The Traffic Side of the Vehicle when parallel parked, hence locks on the passenger side only.
We were also in the middle of a massive recession & the Big 3 were looking to save money any where they could for themsilves & the buyers.
