I had never heard about that so I couldn't say, but this is what it states in Paul G. McLaughlin's book "Ford trucks 1957-67"................

272 ci ohv V-8
Engine paint: Block = red, Accents = black (valve covers, air cleaner box and so on)
Hope this helps.

I'm curious too, Kenny. Is there a single, accurate source for the engine, trim, bell housing, and transmission colors for the various years or do we need to look at different references and choose the most popular recommendation? I've seen folks post information here on FTE that different colors were used in the same year for the exact same engine at the same plant! Sort of the "color of the week" or maybe "whatever body color the paint shop had too much of this month."
I've got a 56 F-250. My 272 block and valve covers look to be red and the bell housing is definitely a bright yellow. I haven't found any paint on the tranny (3 speed HD unit) yet. I have no idea if anything or everything has been repainted over the years. I'd really like to know what colors to paint this setup once I get it cleaned up and rebuilt.
If I need to buy a book or two I'd be happy to - maybe Charles and I can each buy one and read them to each other over the phone.

1957 F100 Engine paint colors?
Hi Guys,
Sorry I didn't see this sooner.
The title of this particular book is "Ford Pickups 1957-67" by Paul G. McLaughlin. It is a restoration guide book. It has 191 pages that cover those years. There's a few pages devoted to each year with Ford Motor Company pictures, and info like: options, history, interesting facts, old ads, etc. The book also has engine specifications (where I got the engine color info from), Production numbers, etc.
I purchased it years back through "Motorbooks International" publishers & wholesalers. I'm not sure if the online store carries it or not though.
There doesn't seem to be one "beat all" source that has everything (at least I haven't found it yet).
I also purchased a really great book called "Standard catalog of American light duty trucks" from the same place. It covers ALL years, makes, and models. It's about the size of a phone book, and full of valuable info as well.
I hope this helps.
