Exclamation My 55,86,02

I need helpwith a problem I have with my 1955 F250 frame it's a long bed I would like to make a short bid that was nothing left of the bed it was on their to use I personally do not like long beds, I've always wanted to have a hot rod and I love the 1955 F100. I do not know of I have to buy a new frame like to work with this one which one would be easier so if you can help me I would appreciate it thank you

Jerry,

You would be better off getting another frame if yours is a long bed. If you are to "hot rod" originality is not one of your concerns. You should be able to find a stock F100 frame. Where are you located? Thanks Donald

The longbed frame can be shortened to the wheelbase and length of the F100 frame, but unless you feel competent to cut and weld a frame (requires cutting in 2 places) while keeping it straight and safe, just find a 53-55 F100 frame and swap everything over. They aren't particularly rare or expensive.

PS: Welcome to the board!

You can also use a 56 frame, but you'll need to use the 56 springs as well as they are a different size. Everything else interchanges.

Shortening a frame is easier than you might think. I shortened my F-3 to F-1 size because I didn't like the long beds either. Check my gallery. If you weld you can do it...

Hi,

I'm not sure about the F250 but the F100 rear springs are the same length for 1953/54 (approx 48 inches) and 1955/56 share (approx 52 inches). I think it's just the rear spring hanger location but I wouldn't bet any money on that.

If you have the tools and the welding skills to shorten the frame (or a friend thats willing to help does) go for it.

Chuck
