Rumble Vibration

I have a 2001 F250 Super Duty Gas with a 5 Speed Auto 4WD.

I get a rumble viration, like driving over rumble strips, at various speeds. Going over a Bump seems to start it off and sometimes ends the vibration.

I have had it at the Ford Dealer and he changed the manual hubs and has checked the torque converter and says it is not in there.

Any Suggestions?

Thanks,

Ed Mueller

Yes ,go back to the dealer that changed the hubs and tell them to change the small needle bearings inside the front wheel bearing hubs that support the front 4x axles.
This a common problem with our trucks.
I bet if you lock the front hubs your problem goes away.
When they changed the hubs they should have lubed an chkd them.

Along with what Rich said, it could be the Wheel Bearing Hub Assembly. Have them check those while they're at it.

And welcome to FTE!

Hey Fortyfords,do you think it would cause a vibration starting at 40 mph-up tp about55mph,then slowly get better? My 2007 f250 4x4 has been at the shop for 8 days, and no luck. The service manager and I went for a ride today,he 's going to talk to a ford engineer about sending a new driveshaft.Mine is an odd ball size being a 8 ft. box and supercab.Do ya think it can happen at that speed? It doesn't start till 40 mph. They load balanced the tires and found one bad one.The vibration you can feel in the steering wheel, floor, and in the seat. thanks for any help,Al. Sorry for Highjackin'.

Hello! Crazyrwe,
yours sounds like in the driveshaft or possibly in the center carrier .
But being new I'd look at bad wheels or tires or even in rotor area
Also maybe but, highly unlikely the torque converter area.

Well Fortyfords,he told me to put it in neutral when we approached 40 mph,and i still felt the vibration. So he sort of dismissed the torque converter.I can almost hear like a faint grinding sound when it's vibrating.

Can anyone give a quick outline as to what work needs to be done to remove and replace the needle bearings described by FortyFords.

I want to try and do this myself if possible.

Thanks for your advice.
