Pertronix Ignition

I am wanting to install a Pertronix unit in my distributer to get rid of the points. The model I need, according to Pertronix, is 1282P6 for my 6-volt positive ground system. The quotes I have received are quite high at $109 and $111. Does anybody know a supplier that has better prices? Thanks, Jag

Wow Joe, that's about $30 off the total considering they have free shipping also. Thanks for the help. Jag

I am sure there is a special # for the 6 cylinder. I called the 800 number at Pertronix and they confirmed the right model. http://www.pertronix.com/ http://www.vintageperformance.com/ also was right on with the proper # John

Thanks for the link, John. I called PerTronix as well and was told that I need a 1261P6 for a 6 cylinder 6 volt system. I don't see it in the vintageperformance.com website. I emailed them to see if they have it available.

Thanks, Ilya

Jag, there is guy on ebay who sells them. I purchased mine for my Mallory dual ignition distributor. I got rid of the dual points that are worthless and put the Pertronix unit in. Very easy install. I paid $63.00 +$5 shipping. That was about 6 months ago.

So far, $83 is the least I can find. Ed, do you happen to remember your source? I looked on Ebay and there are dozens of suppliers. I emailed a couple and they responded that they did not carry the model I wanted. Jag

i have a single point distributer that works entirely by vacuum advance on my 8 cylinder flathead 53 12 volt

will I get improved performance by upgrading to this conversion and eliminating points altogether?

The package says you will get better performance, mileage, etc. I like them because it eliminates the need to gap and maintain points/condensors. Jag

Jag, I don't recall the company name. I do recall they were in CA. Let me dig up some receipts and I'll email you if I find the info.

I double checked summit for you, $93 they are nice and quick though.

I had one in my 69 stang, I was hopeing for more mileage and more performance. I didn't notice any diffrence, I would not buy them for performance gain, but you do get to stop worrying about dwell and points and what not so they are worth it for that.

Here is the link to the guy I bought mine from on E-bay. I paid 62.95 with shipping. It seems to run about the same with it, but there is no need for point or condensor maintenance

The seller was definetely a straight shooter and I got it in the mail within a week of ordering.
good luck

My truck started easier and idled better with the pertronix setup. However I did switch to 12 volts and put a flamethrower coil on at the same time. My points were new and the wires were in good shape.
