ignition timing
I have a 1996 F150 4.9L, I was wondering if you can adjust your igniton timing or is it controlled by the computer?

I belive its adjustable, but you have to remove the "spout" connector (I think OBD-IV still had these) and then hook up your timing light like normal. Just remember to connect the spout connector again, or your timing won't advance as the computer controls it.
Good luck.

but you have to remove the spout connector and replace it when you are finished.
if you do not know what this is than do a search for more info.

Is there some performance advantage to bumping your timing on the 4.9L ?
Do you have a best case setting in mind?
I used to do it in my '71 Satellite's 318 but I always timed that by ear anyway.

any engine will benefiet from advanced timing, it will allow the spark to come on quicker and burn more completely.

It also makes the motor run a little bit warmer. Which they need.
