Talking 14 Mpg

Went from St.Louis to Madison IN and back pulling a small 12OO LB trailer this weekend with the 2006 PSD no mods and 3000K. 14 MPG is this good...bad... average? I even folded the Mirrors in on the way back in a desperation move!...not a good idea as I almost put some little sedan in the ditch.

77 mph was where I kept the speed... 2200 rpm

love my PSD!

That sounds about right. I get 14mpg around town, 16 on the highway(65mph) and 12 mpg towing my 6000 lb travel trailer. I'm quite fond of my PSD as well!

Sounds about right. My mileage is not where I think it can be, but mostly because my foot keeps getting heavier and heavier.

It's just too fun passing everyone going up big hills.

I think it stinks. My 04 CC SB gets 19/20 @ 2000/2200 rpm empty (tonneau). 15 in town no freeway. 12 with a 7500 pound car trailer with a 60 sq foot front. I got 18 with my tear drop looking M/C trailer driving 65. #1200 too. No engine mods: Zoodad with Gibson Extreme duals. Milage did go up after 10K miles...Good Luck

My PSD is 10K miles old and I was getting about 13.5 when brand new and am now getting 14.5-15.5 in daily city driving. From everything I here, I expect it to rise to at least 17 when I hit about the 30K mile mark.

To me, that sounds a little low. This past summer I towed my small TT (5,000lbs) down to S. Oregon averaging 65mph and got 13.8 mpg (hand calculated). The terrain was fairly flat and I had it on cruise the whole way. That was when my PSD was new, I only had about 3K miles on it at the time. You were going much faster than I so maybe that is about right. Once you get above 70mph, don't expect great mileage (IMO).

hand calc. I get about what jimmy-six gets...got in the mid to high 17's pulling my 5k trailer...get 15's around town and 12's pulling my new TT which is around 8K...for a while after my last PCM update it was terrible but it seemed to improve back to the old numbers listed about.

dentaldave, 14 mpg @ 77mph with a small trailer isn't bad... I'd guess that if you had been going a bit slower (65-70 mph) your mileage would have been noticeably better.

Yep, towing FAST. Anything over 70 with a trailer is fast.

I have a 2006 F350 4x4 4.30 gears drw LB and I have been getting about 11 - 12 mpg, mostly city stop n go driving, with maybe about 4 miles hiway driving twice a day going to/from work. With the mileage listed above and other discussions on 6.0 mileage, most of them are higher than mine, are they on the 3.73 or 4.10 gear ratios? I have about 1,500 miles on my truck. Can anyone give me an idea what a 4.30 truck could expect to have in mpg? Thanks. Haulin350.

I just got back from a 1400 miles round trip pulling a 6500lbs car trailer, plus about another 1k lbs in the bed. I averaged between 13.8-14mpg. I thought that was pretty good considering the car I was pulling only gets 15 on the highway. By the way I have an 06 f350 s/crew, long bed, 4x4.

That doesn't seem to bad at nearly 80mph. I imagine you'll get a little better mileage as the engine breaks-in.

Unfortunately, our bricks are wider, heavier, and lower geared than most of the SRW guys, so we tend to get less MPG's. I would probably be scared something was broke if I ever saw my over overhead Lie-O-Meter get to 14 mpg's. I average around 13.7 Hwy (unloaded), 12.5 city, and 8-10 towing 6k#.

gregk, try this thread--> https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...light=4+30+mpg

Back to the topic at hand... There are a lot of factors which affect mpg with driving style/speed as the most dominant (weight of right foot) but also distance traveled. For example, I rarely travel less than 15 or 20 miles which gives my engine an opportunity to fully warm-up to operational temp and has a positive effect on mpg as opposed to short trips that don't allow an engine to warm-up. Certainly something to consider when evaluating mpg

I just went to Little Rock from Tulsa in my 06. Have 75 lbs of air in tires and 14,000 miles on truck. Drove 71-72 on the way and got right at 18 mpg. Drove 75 coming back and got 19.6 mpg. This was very lightly loaded with three adults. Cruise Control both ways. 4x4 CC KR. Seems like it's starting to get broken in...I be smilin ;-)

DentalDave, didn't mean to steal your thread. I will watch it from now on. Thank you for the info from EnviroCon and Utahtom, good info to know. I upgraded from a 2002 F250 7.3 with a Banks system to the F350 to tow my 37' 5ver. I love my new truck and can't see why anyone would want another brand, personal preference I guess. Haulin350.
