idle problem

i have a problem that only happens once in a while. it is that when i start my truck it does not idle. starts and shuts off at once. if i start it and put in gear it runs ok and idles ok. it is a auto trans.

You might have a sticking idle control solinoid going bad, or dirty. It is a common thing on fords for us. You can clean them, but they seam to fail again in a short time. I recomend replacment.
