Diesel Additives

Iv done some searcing and will continue to, but what is a good additive to run with my diesel. Iv heard that the new low sulfer diesel isnt that great for the 03 or older diesels because of a lack of lubricant in the fuel system. will an additive help with that? If so what is the best additive to use.

Power Service's DieselKleen(white bottle for winter, grey bottle for warmer climates), Standyne Performance Formula, Schaeffers Soy shield, Lubecontrol's FP-60 or add pure biodiesel. Good link on lubricity of our fuels and
adding bio diesel: LINK

Well, you just named off the ones I was thinking of. I've used all but the Lubecontrol and have no complaints. The DK seems to be the easiest to come by though, available at most auto parts stores and the dreaded WM.

Has anyone tried this product? http://www.lagunaspeed.com/display_p...ursion_7.3.php

The only reason im asking is b/c im wonder why all the other ones you guys are listing require 16+oz per tank when this product only needs 1oz. Either way ill probably just try the products all ready sugsted.

I use Marvel Mystery oil and add 8 oz to 40 gallons. I used to use DK but I always ahd a lot of injector noise. I tried the MMO and have very little noise and gain a few mpg. Just recently while traveling I ran out and bought a bottle of DK to use and again my injector noise came back. I put the MMO back in and again it went quiet. I have no idea why. It was so noisy one time that I took it to the garage and had them do a scan on it and everything was fine. The tech asked me if I ran additives and I told him DK, he then showed me a TSB from Ford saying that some additives will cause noisy injectors, and told me that I should try different brands. I did and found the MMO to work best in my engine.

I use Shaeffers Diesel Treat 2000. I was told by the rep for shaeffers that it is different from the Soy Shield in that it is a better overall additive. Soy Shield is many for lubricity and not for raising the cetane level. He also told me that soy shield is many used for farm equipement, dozers, etc. I have ran DK in the past and liked it at the time, but my truck runs much better on Diesel Treat. 4oz per 29 gallons. I have seen about a .5-1 mpg difference in the two. I will never run DK again after using Diesel Treat.

I think your rep may have a screw loose. The Soy Shield will indeed raise the cetane level 3-4 points. In fact, the spec sheet for the soy shield and DT2000 are almost identical. Here are some links to the spec sheets.

Diesel Treat 2000: http://www.schaefferoil.com/datapdf/137.pdf

I agree with Herman on HOWES, but one word of advice... do NOT keep the opened bottle in the cab! IF it leaks, it takes forever and a day for that wintergreen scent to go away!
I started out using it on my Freightliner and was so impressed I started using it in both my 7.3 and my Kubota tractor.
That being said...
Biodiesel won me over quickly! The main thing to remember after running Biodiesel is to change your fuel filter soon after you are thru your first tank or so. It is SO GOOD at cleaning out the gunk that even the stuff that has lined your tank or system will be made clean. great stuff!

Howes additive and another note.

Yeah... i forgot about the Howes...another good product from what i hear.
Something worth noting here is that Terry Dyson of Dyson Labs(oil analyses lab)
gives the nod to the Lubecontrol FP-60 and the Schaeffer's Soy Shield.

I use DK mainly, it is easier to get then Stanadyne. I know for a fact with straight 30 gal. of #2 diesel and a 16 oz. anti-gel DK(white bottle) it won't gel at -25F.

red line

I've been running a product called redline for a while now.. they make it for galoline and diesel engines.. it's a lubricant/injector cleaner aswell as cetane booster.. after about a month of use i noticed that my RPM at 120 kph had gone down from 2300 rpm to about 2000 rpm.. anyway great product.. shows results..
