New Tires which Rear End?

2004 F-150 Heritage 4.2L V-6. Just installed fabtech 3.5 inch spindle kit with Terra Grappler 285/75R16 tires. (pics coming soon) I am looking at upgrading my rear end. I have the 3.31 right now and was wondering if 3.73 or 4.10 would be the better option. I do some highway driving so I was thinking the 3.73 but let me know what you think.

Also I was thinking about adding an LSD. If I decide to do this will the LSD unit fit into my stock rear end? or do I need a larger pumpkin?

Thanks for your help

Since you have the V6, you might want to consider 4.56's. 4.10's wouldn't be bad either...

4.10's with a Ford trac-Loc will work fine. You have an 8.8 rearend.

Hey Jerry,

Did those 285's slow you down a little, eh? They did for me but the dual exhaust, I think, made up for it. I'd say go for the 4.10 gears, that's a couple steps up from where you are and I think you'll be happy with the outcome. When I do my gears that's what I'll be getting myself.

Wait till he posts his new pics of this truck, it looks so good, so much better than it was. Big improvement!

Yeah they did! I knew they would but I wanted the lift first!!!! So the LSD will fit in the stock pumpkin and the general cosensus is 4.10?

Thanks for the compliments! I really enjoy the lift and it is a pleasure to drive. I am at school right now so hopefully when I get home tonight I can post the pics.

Any more opinions welcome

does the Ford trac loc use clutches? I have read that if you are going to get an LSD you should not use ones that utilize clutches? Is this true?

The one in my Mustang 8.8 has 160,000 miles on it and it still smokes both tires. Yes it is a clutch type.
The one in my 01 has 66,000 miles on it and it still works fine as well. Just be sure to ad the friction modifier to the fluid when installing it.

Thanks for the info LxMan1

sounds like the clutches arent that bad then bc 160,000 miles and going strong sounds great
I will look into the Ford Trac-loc and the 4.10 rear end.

Thanks for the info guys.

also i posted some pics of my lift and new wheels and tires.

there are more to come but dial up load up time takes forever
